I was 40 yr old 8st smoker, size 6, 32a. Now I'm 43, smoker (31 months still going strong) 9st.12lb. 34a/32b. I have lost a few pounds in the past week or 2. But I'm sadly losing it from the top half first. I do have a back problem which makes any impact/ weights training difficult. I've been hula hooping to get rid of belly flab, & plan on taking up swimming. Anyone any tips on keeping the fat in the right places? Or rather toning it up, I don't want to be flat, would probably rather be fat tbh...........

Unfortunately we have no control over how our body sheds the fat. It's disappointing. All you can do it keep going and build muscle in the places where you'd like to keep shape (e.g. glutes). It's particularly tricky with your chest because they have a lot of fat, but you can train your chest muscle (e.g. pecs) which can help keep things perky...so to speak... Swimming will be great for your upper body. Can you do things like push ups?0

Aww Thank u very much to all the replies. They are all very helpful. I'm new to the forums so don't know how to reply personally to each msg Lol. True @ Tavistock Toad I thought keeping the extra cup size too good to be true. But I will try my best to keep a bit. @oh_happy_day I'm rubbish at push ups. Even the ones on knees. I should persevere really tho. I give in too easily! This app is good at keeping up with calorie intake I will start doing some exercise that helps with toning. Imsoin2u I'm not sure sit ups will be good for my back. But thanks for the reply.0

Pushups are great for the muscles in your chest, it's okay to do them on your knees as long as you're keeping decent forms. You'll graduate to your toes eventually! You just have to keep at it.
You don't need to do sit ups to work on your core. Try doing planks. They target a wider range of ab muscles anyway. Do you think those would be okay for your back? http://30dayfitnesschallenges.com/how-to-do-a-plank/ There are heaps of variations to keep challenging yourself as you improve.0 -
Thanks oh_happy_day i will try them. I'm not sure what is "not" good to do with a bad back. I know any jumping, skipping and lifting anything heavy that kind of thing isn't good as I've tried. I think strengthening my core will do it the world of good. Even when I was considered slim I was unfit. Maybe the extra weight is making my back worse.0

See how you go with planks, there's no weight or jumping etc. I think you should see a physio for an assessment and some advice on what exercises you should start with. You can't mess around with your back! It's likely that the extra weight probably isn't helping your back and generally speaking strengthening your core is great for your back. I really think you should see a physio for some advice though.0

I don't know how much a physio will cost I know their not cheap. But I do need to know what's going on. Seems like back/ pelvic. Probably wear and tear from having kids. And I'm not getting any younger Lol. Thanks I will let u know how the planks go!0
