Low Carb and losing it

Any low carbers out there?

Hi, I have been gradually cutting my carbs back, I am wanting to try the low carb high fat way of eating but I am a little scared about the high fat thing after years of trying to stick to low fat! I have seen a lot of people have success on it and health problems disappearing. I am just having trouble working out what to eat instead

Good Morning. I'm on a low carb diet because I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes, and its been a little bit of a struggle because I'm trying to make it a low fat and low sodium too. I've gone on some diabetic websites to find new recipes. I a new to MFP, about one month.
Have yourself a blessed day and I'd like to become your friend on MFP. I need support because I like people and I need a few good people to cheer me on.

I have just started today on a low carb high fat/protein way of eating. Its a bit scary as like you it has always been low fat etc. I have a friend who has been eating this way since January and she feeling the benifits from it as well as loosing weight.0

I have been eating low carb for about 3 months. The first three weeks were the hardest, but my body adjusted. Lost a lot of inches.0

Check out the Low Carber Daily group, right here on MFP. Great bunch of supportive & knowledgeable people. I've been eating low carb, high fat for several months now, and losing about 5 lbs/month. My blood pressure & blood glucose are down in addition to my weight. It is a shocker to feel permission to eat fat after being told for decades to avoid them. But - we were lied to decades ago, and the truth is only coming out now. The real poison is sugar, not fat.0

If you are losing it, perhaps low carb isn't for you. Try going reduced carb instead of low carb and see how it works for you. Many with insulin/bloodsugar issues are very successfully managing it with reduced carb (35-40 % of your diet instead of the recommended 50-65%)DrawnToScale wrote: »The real poison is sugar, not fat.
Sugar is not a poison. Even diabetes experts tell their patients to forget about counting sugars and just count total carbs, unless they are taking insulin where knowing your sugars as well as complex carbs is necessary for figuring out a correct dose.

I've been on a low carb high protein diet since Jan. Have so far lost 25 lbs. I'm suppose to eat 90 grams of protein and 45 to 60 grams of carbs. It's been more difficult to get the 90 protein in me.
Though after 6 months I'm much healthier. Just had all my blood work checked and everything is back in the normal range!!! I have only one more to work on my glucose was 108 now its 104 so 5 more points. But my AC1 was back in normal range which my doctor said is his main reading for diabetes.
Also I do have more energy, exercise 5 days a week 35 to 50 minutes a day and not as hungry.
Summer has been harder so my goal for the summer is maintaining what i've lost so far.
I would love to have friends on the low carb high protein diet, so please add me as a friend!!0 -

Sugars are carbs. Counting carbs is best. I've been shocked to see that some folks who are T2D are told to feel free to eat "healthy whole grains", I think such doctors are quacks. Check out doctor Jason Fung - his presentations are inspirational!0 -

I have and I would rather follow my Doctor, who is a Certified Diabetic Educator, who told me to stay below 180 g of total carbs daily. In less than 8 months I lowered my a1c by two full points into the normal range and it hasn't been out of that range since. Low carb isn't for everyone. It isn't even for every diabetic.
Yes, sugars are carbs. You first said that they are poison. Now you are saying that all carbs are bad, including complex carbs, and a doctor recommending whole grains where they are getting complex carbs and fiber is a quack. Please stop passing on misinformation. There are no carbs that are good or bad. The only thing that is bad is eating more of them than your blood sugar regulatory system can handle. What this amount is, is very individual.
