Weight gain in the beginning w/ no cheating!?

so I'm I think on day 6, MFP reccomend we 1750 cal, I cut myself to 1650 because I like that 100cal cushion in case I missed some calories when eating out or anything. I've been drinking water and have been 100% honest and not cheated. I weighed myself just now out of curiosity, and scale says I gained 4lbs!?
What the heck. I've been so good about not boredom snacking, really aiming for lots of fruits and veggies minus eating out twice but I still never went over 1700cal.
I was so excited to start this journey but I'm already failing miserably.

Weight loss is not linear.0

It's only been 6 days. That 4lbs could be water weight. A week isn't nearly enough time to think you're failing miserably. Weight loss requires lots of patience and realistic expectations.0

That makes sense, I think I just panicked after so many failed diets and lots of people saying they lost x amount of weight the first week.0

Comparison is the thief of joy. Don't worry about others & the amount they say they lost. It's not a competition.0 -
Well that definitely can be disappointing. A couple things to consider. If you started working out too. You could be retaining water in your muscles. Also maybe your starting weight happened to be on a low day. This did happen to me. I weighed 167 then 2-3 days later was about 170 but I didn't record it. If you did weigh on a low day then you may have lost or at least not gained and in fact your starting weight is inaccurate. Anyway it's still early in your journey. Have faith and keep working at it.0

Think of the weight loss as a side effect of the lifestyle change That way you focus on what matters (living a healthier life), everything else is just gravy, in a manner of speaking. Embrace the process!0

Did you weigh at the same time of day, under the same conditions as your first weigh-in? That can affect it too. I'd recommend only weighing in the morning right after you wake up, no clothing, and after you've gone to the bathroom and stay consistent with that timing and those circumstances so you can get a real idea of how you're doing. I can gain 5lbs throughout the day just because of what I've eaten, drank, etc throughout the day.0

Also, I'd like to add, you're saying you've eaten out... take a look at your sodium. Eating *almost* anything from a restaurant will cause you to bloat because of additives and sodium.0

First, make sure you weigh yourself at the same time and under the same conditions. In the a.m. after the a bathroom run and naked is your best bet. If you wait until afternoon - your weight can vary in huge amounts depending on what you are wearing, how much water you've had, etc.
Next, while I agree that weight loss is not linear. If in fact you are truly under cals every day (I suspect you are not), I would have expected a loss at this point. Make sure you are measuring and weighing all of your food. That is generally the biggest culprit of not having success. If you are eating workout calories back - STOP!
If you are concerned about water weight, track your sodium. If you've eaten out twice in six days - that could be part of the problem.

Oh grl, don't get discouraged, and definitely don't give up. Not seeing results right away sucks, but I PROMISE, if you burn more calories than you consume, you're going to lose weight. It's science, I swear.
Like the other posters have said, you're probably retaining water. Did you just begin an exercise program? I gain 5+ pounds the day after my personal training sessions from muscle inflammation. I also retain water just before I get my period.0 -
I'm not sure why you think I'm not under my calories every day? That was kinda disheartening :-/ I use a food scale, liquid and dry measuring cups and spoons for everything. When I ate at Panda Express I had them put half a normal serving on the plate, then shared what was on the plate with two of my kids. That was the only time I truly had to guess. I even logged the two samples I had at Costco lol.
I definitely was over my sodium for two days, my parents had an anniversary dinner and we ate out but I had only had 1/2c cereal, 1/4milk, and a cup of veggie soup for lunch that day so I was able to stay under the 1750.
first weigh in was late night pj's and second was afternoon jeans and t shirt.
and most days I don't even log my workouts so that the calories burned aren't factored in.0 -

When people stop losing and start gaining, it's usually because they are eating too much due to inaccurate logging. It's just a routine thing to check; process of elimination0 -
Have you started doing resistance training? If you're sore or have been, likely your muscles are retaining water for recovery. As well as the sodium. Or, maybe you indulged a bit before you started your program and it took a minute to show on the scale. Probably all of the above and some other stuff too.0

The scale is going to fluctuate. It goes up and down for many reasons. Periods, especially, can make the scale jump way up.
Stay the course. If you go a few weeks without losing, drop the calories.
There is no one formula that works for everyone. You have to try things, see how they go and adjust as necessary. It's a process.

How do You politely decline or avoid eating out invites from family if your avoiding sodium? My large extended family typically eats out once a week at local places and then on Sunday's I drive my daughter to the city for 5 hours of practice, during which I usually grab lunch with my other two kids (this is when I opted for steamed veggies, grilled chicken and green beans and just two forkfuls of chow mein from Panda Express)0

I would recommend changing your weigh-in time to morning, no clothing, only after you've gone to the bathroom. Fewer variables to affect your weight at that point in the day and will give you a more accurate picture of your progress. Jeans alone can add 2lbs to your weight.

Thanks for trouble shooting with me I'll definitely take all these tips into account:)
I did just infused water for the three days before starting. Could definitely be hormonal ect. Hopefully I'll see a loss next week

You have a weight range not a single weight. Look at the trend of your weight range.
Pretty picture of 5lbs a month loss.
Note three periods of no loss during that month.
Note multiple periods of "OMG my weight went up this morning" during that month.
Pretty picture makes happy people, though!
