Hi all,

I am trying to drop weight (body fat) as well as build up some muscle. I've lost about 17 pounds over the past month and am about 15 pounds from my goal weight (in terms of pure body fat). Does anybody have any tips about whether or not I should increase my protein and how much if I am now getting back into lifting weight?

I'm at about 1800 cals now to lose weight, and I burn about 250-350 a day running 3 12-minute miles on treadmill, so I end with about 2000-2100 cals. Should I increase this and how much protein should I be eating?

songbyrd is the best one to answer this question but, the short answer is yes. If you're weight training to build muscle you should include a little protein after each session to help. From what I've read, you need to have excess calories in order to build muscle. It's very difficult, if not impossible to build muscle when your in a calorie deficit mode. I seem to remember songbyrd saying there was new information about this though.

You might want to talk to a personal trainer who works with body builders for some advice.
