I have substituted applesauce for butter/oil in muffins/cakes/loaves before but never for cookies. I was thinking I would make the kids some choc chip cookies and try substituting applesauce for the butter. Does it work just as well for cookies?

Im not sure about cookies..its funny I wanted to make some blueberry buckle but dont know what to use for a butter substitute. It calls for a crumble on top, what do you think would work?

I think olive oil would work, just not extra virgin--the flavor would be wrong.

OP--I've used applesauce as a substitute in oatmeal-raisin cookies before, and they came out pretty good. Might work okay for chocolate chip.
