Willpower at the movies

im taking my kiddos to the movies this afternoon. We usually grab a large popcorn to split (kids are 3,6,17 and grandma goes with us) and a diet soda.
I quit drinking soda and know there's no way the theatre popcorn isn't a bazillion calories. I'm just hoping I can enjoy the movie rather than agonizing or being hungry the whole time :-/
Just looking for encouragements from anyone who has survived the theater with kids, cause not getting popcorn isn't an option, it's what keeps them sitting the whole time lol

Bring like a small sandwich bag so you can have some if you want. When the bag is empty time to stop eating.0

Bring your own snack. If you like popcorn, maybe try Popcorn Indiana cinnamon sugar popcorn; its 130 calories for 2 cups. Great sweet movie snack for the caloric "price"0

I've always thought you weren't allowed to bring your own snacks? I'll call and ask! I could bring some string cheese and rice crackers
Our movie theater is actually pretty cool, they pop the popcorn fresh (you can watch) and because I have a kid with food allergies I've read the ingredients and it's basically palm oil and coconut oil and a truck load of salt.0 -

I'm going to look for that, it sounds yummy0 -
I go to the movies at least once a week with our kids and some friends. I LOVE movie theater popcorn. I used to eat through an entire large, extra buttered popcorn by myself no problem. That being said, yes, movie theater popcorn is generally right around a zillion calories.
I buy the kids their own popcorn (the large), but I buy myself a small, unbuttered. I pre-log the small popcorn (I use the entry for Regal small unbuttered, 480 calories) and fit the rest of my day around it. I still get a nice serving of popcorn, I stay in my calorie goals, and I'm not missing out.
I know some people can bring their own snacks, not eat, etc. But movie theater popcorn has been a central part of my life since I was a toddler.
ETA: It's worth the extra money to my sanity to buy the two separate popcorn tubs.0 -
I smuggle in baby carrots... My kids make fun of me for that.. Lol0

I'm sure you have your reasons for quitting soda. That's the only thing I get at the movies.0

I either pop my own light popcorn at home and sneak it in with a bottle of water. Sometimes I buy me a kid pack and buy the rest the family the large popcorn and soda. I use the calories for AMC theater.0

I quit drinking diet soda because I found myself feeling like I needed it, and getting headaches if I didn't have one
Ha they said no smuggling. This will be when my giant tote of a purse comes in handy lol.0 -
I plan for it.
I make sure I eat before we go and get a small popcorn no butter for just me--the theatre may be willing to give you an empty bag with your large. Total for regal popcorn is like 400-something calories for a small no butter. A full meal worth of calories but if I'm good the rest of the day and work it at the gym it all works out. I love movie popcorn so that's when I treat myself.0 -
I eat before hand and bring in a big water bottle of water. The prices are enough to make me not want to buy the smacks,0
