Hi all! After college I want to join the Navy and try to make something better of myself. I've always been over weight and the last year have been trying to get in shape and go to the gym. So far this app. has helped me loose 7lbs and I couldn't be happier! I have about 18 more to go and finally think it's a real possibility to be lighter then I was in middle school. I know it's going to be hard but i look forward to meeting great people here! :-)

Hi and congrats for your current success! Everyone I knew (including myself) lost weight in basic or boot. I'm sure you're getting plenty of advice from friends and family already, so I'll just wish you luck and add you as a friend. Don't give up!0

Thank you so much! Trust me any advice I'll take if you want to share. I've heard all kinds of stories from it was crazy intense to it it wasn't bad....0 -
I became a heavy sweater. Never had a problem with it beforehand even after working my butt off to get ready. I was singled out as a guidon (flag-bearer) for my flight of 60 trainees. That meant extra upper body work on top of being forced to eat less due to practice times being right before/right after chow. They'll find a special job for you to do, so be adaptable!
After lifting in high school, my start weight was a defined, muscular 125 at the start that devolved to roughly 110 when I got to tech school. I may have been slightly malnourished from the physical labor and not eating enough. Fairly muscular guys at the beginning always leaned out (and not for the better) toward the end, even though AF has the shortest duration of basic at 6 weeks. When you get closer to your departure time, learn how to eat FAST. Try to make sure you pick the highest calorie thing on your plate to scarf first, even before sitting down. We also had to down at least 3 glasses of a gatorade-type liquid before being allowed to leave the facility (was in TX at the end of summer), so it may be worth it to learn how much your stomach can handle that kind of chugging after eating.
My lifelong desire to be in the service helped shape me for the better, and it's a huge part of the civilian I am today. I hope it can be as positive an experience for you in the long run, even though some days suck terribly.0
