How can I pay for plastic surgery after weight loss?

My name is Tara and I am new to MFP so first I want to say hey. I hope I am posting in the correct category.

I have lost 100 pounds and am about 35 pounds away from my goal weight. I'm sure most of you who have lost a ton of weight understand the loose skin issues. Well, I've been dealing with that for about a year now and I'm really wanting to get past this and move on to the final step of getting surgery to get rid of all the madness. Yes it's complete madness I tell ya :P

I'm going just be blunt and say I don't have the $20k or so to get the surgery I really want, even if I save and save it would probably take me years as I have my daughter to take care of as well as my own bills. I wanted to get a lower body lift to get rid of my loose skin on my stomach and lower back.

I know my family will not be able to help much, my credit is not good enough to finance (I recently tried for a loan and was denied). I have about 7k in savings, which I absolutely can't just blow all my savings.

They say money doesn't buy happiness, but it sure would buy the surgery I want to make me feel better physically and mentally. I've dealt with my weight issues for my entire life, I'm almost down to a healthy weight where I want to be steady with it for 6 months, and then I want to finally be able to get all of this skin off.

So I thought I would come to all of you on MFP to get some opinions, ideas, anything. Maybe some of you have actually gone through this and can give me advice. What should I do? Any help is so much appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

It's the same as anything that costs money. You save, you get an extra job, you sell stuff... whether it's skin surgery, or a cruise, or a new car, you can either afford it (eventually) or you can't...

Or you convince your health insurer it's required for medical reasons.

I have lost 100 also. May I ask what all you have done to take care of this issue at home? I have some tips that helped me.

    Pretty much your options are:
    1. Get a job
    2. Get a better paying job
    3. Get a second job
    4. See if your insurance will cover it.

I'm pretty sure this is how you're supposed to acquire money.

Yup. Work with your doctor to see if any part of it will be paid for by insurance. They sometimes approve it if keeping the loose skin will cause health issues (mostly constant rashes and fungal infections) or if the boobs are still large enough that they need a reduction and lift. They almost never pay for surgery to places like the underarms and thighs. They also require you to keep the weight off for at least a year before they will even consider it.

    Your other options are:
    save
    get a second job
    personal loan
marry and kill off a spouse for the insurance money
find a sugar daddy (or a cougar if you are male)

The first thing I would do is go get a consult from a plastic surgeon (most of them don't charge for a consult) and find out how much it will cost. That way you at least know how much it is going to cost. In the meantime start working on saving money and improving your credit score, that way you may be able to pay for part of it and get a loan for the rest. Get a second job and find ways to budget your money to add to your savings.

Good idea. Remember, any surgeon worth his salt will wait until a year after you have reached your goal weight before doing any surgery so you have time to save, improve that credit score, get a second job and set aside all of the money from it, etc. Even 20 hours a week at minimum wage will earn you an extra $7-8,000 a year. Two years of that and you should have most of it paid off already.

consider medical tourism. you can probably get the same surgery, including airfare, hotel stay, etc. at a reputable foreign, english speaking medical center in asia or south America for under $5000. Google medical tourism / plastic surgery online. make sure you find a well reviewed, reputable clinic/medical center.
