My site says I should be at 14g of fiber. I thought the recomended amount per day was 25g? I am going way over the the 14g. With fruits, veggies, beans and oatmeal. Is this OK?

MFP's automatic settings are low because unlike calories, its considered not a limit [like calories] but a minimum to try to get [like vitamins.] But you are right on the 25 grams being the recommended minimum, and getting 25-35 grams per day is the suggested target to aim for.
  • Hi, fiber all depends on what, realistically, a doctor recommends. Since it's fat soluble it's always recommended to start out in smaller doses and work your way up. Try and start with 14 g and work your way to 25g. That way you won't or at least shouldn't have any digestive issues. Should work for you.

Fibre's good, and alot of people here agree that MFP's settings are very low. I've heard 25g is the ideal too so I'm trying to aim for that, or at least 20g.

I customized my diet by changing my fiber goal to 25. You're right, the MFP preset number (I think mine was like 14) seemed incredibly low.

My Home --> Goals --> Change Goals --> Select Custom and click Continue.

Then just change whatever you want and click Save!

Fiber recommendations sometimes get a little crazy. I have read fiber recommendations as high as 38 for guys but most days I hit 25+ range. I think read the average American only gets about 14 daily. If you are hitting the 25 range I think you are fine. Just make sure you are getting a good balance of soluble vs insoluble. Too much Insoluble fiber clean out nutrients as well as the rest. So don't overload those types of fiber.
