Jogging outdoor or jogging in place?

Are they the same type of useful for weight loss? Websites have different ideas about this issues. Just wondering would there be a more accurate answer.

I think any exercise trumps sitting on the couch. Jogging indoors or on a treadmill or in place won't give you the little extra movements associated with dodging potholes and dogs. It also is one level floor instead of road plus grass plus sand and hills. That's why hiking burns more than walking. But really, just move.0

It seems to me that with jogging in place you almost certainly wouldn't get the same force, so you wouldn't have to counteract that force, so you'd burn fewer calories because, ultimately, it's not as hard work.0

u are going to get a much higher calorie burn jogging outside. but there is more chance of injury. i love being outdoors so i would much prefer being outside. it's a personal choice both are atleast being active0

Running on the treadmill or outside trumps running in place. I think jogging in place would be somehitng counted as part of your activity level and not cardio.0 -
I am certain I get more of a burn outside (especially since I have to jog in the grass when a car comes) than I do with Wii Fit running. But it's too hot out to jog when I can, so Wii Fit it is.
If you're only able/willing to jog indoors, don't feel guilty about the extra calorie burn. It's better than skipping a workout.0 -

When I use my Wii to jog, I can jog for 30 minutes.
Outdoors, maybe 4-5 minutes at a time.
During my Wii jog, I use 5 pound weights to work my arms and abs.
Outdoors, the track I use is slightly tilted, giving it a higher impact feel.
I don't have any way to test which method burns more calories. I would say both have a positives. Do which ever one you're comftable with.

I think Jogging outdoors will also improve your mental well being than being in your house. Its amazing what fresh air and the sky above can do to improve your outlook/happiness/general well being.0

If you are not able to get outside much (it is 100+ every day where I live now) I can tell you what has been working for me. I walk at work and at home, just in place quickly, and I have lost 38 pounds since Jan. It really is definitely more about the kitchen, but for me walking inside has been very effective, esp since there is no way I'm going outside!0
