4 lb weight gain in a day

Is it normal to gain 4lb in one day? Only have to eat 1 wrong thing and my weight goes up and 3 days later its still the same

Your weight fluctuates from day to day. It is better to weigh yourself every day, and then take the average for the week.0

Im starting to get really down because of it ,ive lost 30lb so far but its come to a stop because of this gain and no what to do,im eaying right abd drinkin plenty of water0

If I eat some salty foods, my weight is up the next day. As much as 3-4 pounds sometimes! If I watch the sodium, I'm usually back on track pretty quickly0

1lb = 3500 calories. So either you way overate/underate or there's a lot of natural fluctuations occurring. I'm going to go with the latter and say stop panicking and just keep on keeping on, it will right itself eventually.0

Peachy carol It was only 2 weeks I lost a pound roughly a pound a day,I eat about 1200 a day0

1lb a day is NOT sustainable. You will gain it all back.
I suspect that you are doing the 'eat as little as possible' diet (but I am just making assumptions, but otherwise I don't see how 1lb a day could be accurate or feasible). Are you going to keep that up for the rest of your life? If not, then you will gain as soon as you go back to old eating habits. You need to focus on making this a lifestyle change, one you will keep up, so you aren't constantly yo-yo dieting. And I speak from experience.0 -
Just to be clear I eat roughly 1200 cal aday and it was only about 2 weeks I lost roughly a pound a day not a month0

It was only them 2 weeks I lost a pound a day that was over a month ago,befor this 4 pound gain I was losing 1-2lb a week which is a healthy amout to lose0

It depends on a number of factors. Once I gained 3 lbs overnight, but it went away after 2 days. I was ovulating and every month when that time comes around, I gain a few lbs from bloating. Don't worry, just keep eating healthy and doing your best0

Will poeple not jump to conclusions that in starving myself please 1200 cal aday for a person of my height and weight is healthy0

More than likely that "1-2 lb a day" loss was just water weight. Typically when you start a new exercise/eating regimine you will lose a lot of water weight at first. That's the same reason why all the contestants on the biggest loser lose so much the first week. Just chill out - this is a marathon, not a sprint. Weight loss is not linear. Sometimes you will have a large loss all at once then go a little bit before losing again... just keep at what you're doing and you will have a loss eventually. If you go a month or two without a loss, then you have truly hit a plateau and all that is needed is to change up your routine. Try a different workout, tweak your diet, etc.0

Don't panic! Trust the process. If you are eating healthy foods in a calorie deficit for your body's requirements, you WILL lose weight. It will fluctuate up and down, but the trend will be in a downward direction.
If your weight goes up and continues to go up over a period of time, you will need to re-examine what you are eating.
If you have been losing at a rapid pace (more than 1-2 lbs. per week) please remember that is not sustainable! It may be very encouraging on the emotional end of things, but as you approach your ideal weight, the rate of loss WILL slow down and you will hit plateaus. Don't let that discourage you. Slow and steady wins the race!0 -

1200 calories is pushing the minimum of what the body needs to function properly on a day to day basis. That number doesn't take in to consideration one's age, current fitness level and health or workout regime etc. The 1200 calories is not static nor is it written in stone.
It is great that you are trying to better yourself in many ways. Be careful though, that you don't hurt yourself internally. Damage can occur without you feeling untoward right away. It would be a good idea to consult with a licensed Sports Nutritionist.

Multiple things, especially salt, can cause a temporary spike in your weight. It's always disheartening when that happens, but the good part is that some other day you'll get back on the scale and suddenly that weight will be gone.0

Weight loss is like a roller coaster. You will constantly go up and down, but the overall trend over time should be down. Scale weight depends on many factors including sodium in your system, hormones, poop and pee that haven't been eliminated through normal bodily functions yet, exercise and many, many other things.
Do not look at your day to day weigh-ins as a measure of success. You are likely to get extremely frustrated if you do. Look at the overall trend over time - lots of time! I've lost a total of 94 pounds so far, but if my weight loss graph was a roller coaster, it would make you sick with all the ups and downs!
As someone mentioned above, 1 pounds of fat equals 3500 calories. So to gain 4 pounds over night, you would have had to eat 14,000 calories ABOVE your maintenance level. If you didn't do that, you didn't gain 4 pounds and it is likely just water weight.0 -
I need to see your diary to give you an accurate response ! I seem to lose weight consistently when I prepare my meals,on days that I eat out I either gain or stay the same weight for a day or two.anyway don't panic, just stay on course !0

increase your protein intake and have 3 small snacks and 3 meals everyday, you MUST INCLUDE PROTEIN with every snack and meal, this simple thing will increase your weight loss but everyone stalls every now and then so tough it out!0
