Does anyone have one of these? It's the simple version, not the one with the option to add resistance. A friend gave it to me and I want to start working out, but I don't feel like it would really do much, and that's why she gave it to me, it wasn't doing what she wanted. It seems like your legs are just swinging back and forth, not like a treadmill or elliptical were you're legs are moving up and down like walking. She's pretty fit though and runs every morning. I'm just starting out when it comes to exercise. Maybe at this point movement is movement and I'm overthinking it.

It is better to put in ten minutes on it than ten minutes on the couch. It has helped me but I am very deconditioned. Use it in bursts and work up a sweat.

OP, I think your persception is accurate. There's no resistance at all, so it's like weightless running. It's the equivalent of just swinging your arms back and forth.
Now, I have heard that it can do some good for people who haven't exercised in a very, very long time. But for the average person of average health who does anything physical on a semi-regular basis (even as simple as walking), I don't think it's going to do any good.
That being said, it was free. So it doesn't hurt to try it out and see for yourself.0
