Why I'm Back

In 2013, I enjoyed the support of myfitness pal.com, and went from 158 lbs. to 124 lbs. over a period of about a year. It was wonderful to be so light again. And strong too, from working out, which helped me feel better inside too. I attracted my old lover back into my life, and we are now married.

At some point I started having symptoms of Graves' disease, an autoimmune disorder that attacks your thyroid, causing it to overproduce metabolism-stimulating hormones. So after losing all that weight in 2013, in 2014 I lost even more weight, became weak, had rapid weak pulse, all the symptoms. Once on meds, I began to gain weight, slowly regain strength, and no more tachycardia. I am still on these meds, which they keep increasing as I have breakthrough test results. The part I dislike is the weight gain, as the meds are sort of tricking my body into a slow metabolism,

SO here I am again, back to working out (doctor's orders were to lay off the workout regimen until the tachycardia went away) and watching what I eat. This time I have added yoga to my regimen, as this helped me so much, including helping me to regain strength and energy.

I haven't lost anything yet, its too early to even measure, but already I am imagining a crysalis re-emerging. Life renews itself again!

A little note: looking back to the time I was recovering, considering our health at that tie (my husband was recovering from a separate illness), it's amazing we managed to pull off a wedding in October, but we did!

Oh I can so relate. In 2005 I lost about 10kg to help me get pregnant, using the CK pc software which is essentially the same. Since then I've had 3 kids (singleton pregnancy & twin preg.). Weight has yo-yo'd up and down since then but never much over 68kg (148lb).

Anyway in July 2012 I too was diagnosed with Graves. Lost weight quickly, knew it was wrong with what I had been eating, all the symptoms, heart palps. Was a very scary time. I used to play touch footy, but doctor said no to exercise like you. I was medicated and close to 18 months later I was lucky enough to be euthyroid or in remission. I've been off all meds since Dec 2013, but yes my weight was back up to my horrible weight.

So I'm finally here now really putting in the effort to get these kilos off because my horrible weight had started to creep past my upper limit of 68kg. It took me a while to really get over the Graves diagnosis and the fact for now I have recovered. I went gluten free for a while, but now I am largely reduced gluten and find it cleared my mind after the Graves, helped with the moods, left over brain fog.

So far so good, but early days yet. :)

I have Hashimoto's (another autoimmune thyroid disease). I lost the weight by following the advice in the Sexypants post: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1
