Hello,
I know that this question is been brought up before but I couldn't really find exactly what I was looking for in the forum.
What do you guys think and use to burn more calories off? Elliptical seems to be burning way more than treadmill according to the counter on the machine but can it be trusted? Especially since everyone is always more tired after the treadmill
Thanks for the input guys

I personally feel like I get a better workout on the elliptical not the treadmill. I like to do the reverse or aerobic workouts on the elliptical and always use my arms. To me the elliptical requires me to use more of my body which causes me to use more energy. Now when I run intervals on the treadmill I will admit I do feel like I got a better workout than the elliptical but for walking or jogs I think the elliptical provides a better total body workout.0

For me I burned more calories on the treadmill then the elliptical, but I think that would all depend on how fast you are going and if you are using an incline.0

DONT TRUST the machines!!! I work at a gym and the personal trainers say the machines are ridiculous. And low and behold, after i went out and bought a HRM that plugs in my height, weight, age, sex..... it gives me a completely different reading the the machines! And this is even after i plug my weight and age into those too!
After hitting a dead stop of my weight loss for about a month i wanted to know what i was doing wrong and this was it! I thought i was burning so many more calories then i really was and that caused me to eat more then i should have been0 -
I don't go by what the machine tells me, but I definitely feel like I get more of a workout from the elliptical0

i agree: i feel that i get a better workout on the elliptical because i move more of my whole body - plus i think of using abdominal muscles for balance more and i definitely always move my arms around a lot more.
*plus --i can go for longer time and put in a resistance level on the elliptical.
*plus 2 -- ellipticals are better for knees! I've had lots of leg and knee surgeries and treadmills are the devil to my leg0 -

This is odd to me because I actually burn more cals than the machines say according to my hrm, I have wondered if it's wrong but it's a well known reputable brand so I'd hope it can atleast tell me my average heart rate right lol0 -
I use the treadmill only cause I love to run but I have been on the elliptical and it seems harder to me. I'd rather do the stair master than the elliptical0

According to my HRM, I always burn more calories on the treadmill than then elliptical. I run at about 5.5-5.8mph depending on the day and at a 1.5 incline most times. And I do two minute intervals between resistance 4 and resistance 9 on the elliptical. And not matter how hard I feel like I'm pushing on the elliptical I just can't keep my heartrate up like I do on the treadmill. And just looking at general calories burned per minute, I average about 8 cal per min on the elliptical and about 10-11 cal per min on the treadmill.
I actually always hate elliptical days. I only do it every now and again to switch it up a bit on my body. But, now that the weather is nicer, I'll be stopping the elliptical all together and changing to online skating for my non-treadmill days. My heartrate stays steadily higher where I want it and I burn a pretty steady 10 cal per min.0 -
It all depends on your body!
I burn a lot more calories on the elliptical, my sister burns a lot more calories on the treadmill...
I guess you need to do one workout on both, and compare the results.
