Be careful what you wish for....

Due to medical problems (infected gallbladder), I lost a lot of weight over a short period of time. I was so fearful of eating something that would cause pain, that I hardly ate at all. Well, I went from 140 pounds to 100 pounds in approximately 6 months while sedentary (I'm an amputee). I finally had the surgery in May of this year and what a different a [gallbladder] makes! Even though I need to still be careful about what I eat, I find myself able to eat, taste and enjoy my food a lot more...and enjoying it, I have. I'm now back to snacking - chips, crackers, popcorn. All favorites of mine, but not consumed for over a year since I first found out about my gallbladder. Now I can "taste" the chips, but "tasting" them at 9 PM is not the smartest or healthiest thing to do.
Not only have I gained 5 pounds in one (1) month, I've had three attacks (acid reflux) in as many weeks. They ease up on me. One moment I'm fine and the next moment I'm rolled up in the fetus position! The attacks were less than 20 minutes a month ago, now they're lasting for an hour or more-emergency room scale pain. The awful thing is that I'm doing it to myself. I've always been an emotional eater. Stress-triggered eating has always plagued me. I'm still under a doctor's care for this condition, but I'm back to the bad habit of over-indulging in the junk food that is so easy to keep next to the bed for easy access.
I wanted to gain weight. I realize that 100 pounds is fine for some, but it made me look as if I had been seriously ill...and ironically, I had. I thought to myself, that after the surgery I would gradually gain 5 to 10 pounds, not 5 pounds in almost as many weeks. Be careful what you wish for. Especially if you have a condition that keeps you bed-ridden or dependent upon a device for walking or movement. Me be an amputee and not able to walk long distance with my prosthesis, I have to be careful not be gain too much and especially not too soon.

sorry to hear about your struggles and good luck with the weight gain ...0

You should talk to your doctor about controlling your heartburn.
Good luck.0 -
Although you do need to watch your snacking, as well as portions in general, the acid reflux may have some other cause. Ask your doctor and maybe try an otc, like pepsid or tagamet (both come in generic, too.)0

Wow, sorry to hear. That really sucks.
You say you are bed ridden? Are horizontal a lot of the time?
For me personally I know I shouldn't eat chips to close to going to bed because being horizontal causes the acid reflux.
On the gaining point, you can eat anything you want as long as you don't eat too many calories. Eat in moderation within your calorie goal and still enjoy those foods

Wooooow , willetamie ... I'm sorry to hear that , hope your doing a lot better now ! I had orthodontic double jaw surgery .. and I had to go on a liquid diet. I went from 109 pounds too 78 pounds . I was really really skinny. I was weak all the time. I could barely breathe because my teeth were rubberbanded shut with a mouth piece between my teeth separating the top and bottom rows. But that was a year and some time ago. I'm 105 pounds now and want to gain weight .
