30lbs lost so far BUT it's really not good

Good morning. I've had my vivofit since Christmas. It motivated me to start eating better. I was faithful to my Nutrisystem plan and I also began working out at a gym with a trainer. I went 5-7 times a week, 2-3 hours a day. My caloric intake was 1200 calories.
Unfortunately, try as I might doing the right thing, I only lost about 5 pounds in 4 months. In May I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am doing well at this point, however, I stopped going to the gym. For whatever reason, I lost my appetite as well. I hardly get 800 calories in per day, if that. I have lost 30 lbs , finally.
I am concerned because it is really disheartening to know that doing the weight loss plan the right way netted me a miserable amount of lost pounds while pretty much starving myself has only seen a loss of 8 lbs a month.
I am 53 and still have a minimum of 50lbs left to lose. I seriously don't know what to do. Nothing makes sense and of course, no one believes my plight.

I'm no expert but it sounds to me that your calorie intake could have been your previous problem. If you were working out 2-3 hours a day I'm pretty sure you need more calories to fuel your body and build muscle than the minimum suggestion of 1,200. Maybe read into it? Maybe I don't actually know what I'm talking about. Don't get down on yourself because of the past. Each day is new you just have to learn to understand and work with your body. Perhaps some of the problem was that your body had cancer and you didn't know it. But again I'm not really qualified to give you nutrition advice. I've had succes with carb cycling though. I hope your treatment goes well. Keep your chin up. One day at a time.0

Weight loss doesn't always make sense. Everybody is different. It is true that everyone will lose weight with the calories in verse calories out deficit, but the weight loss may be quicker or slower depending on your body. With breast cancer your body is going through a lot of changes especially depending on your treatment. Glad to hear you are doing better! You have to be patient. Whether you lose .5 lbs a week or 3 lbs a week it's the change you are making to your lifestyle that is worth everything in the world. Take it easy. Hopefully you can get back into your old regimen quickly, and if that's the case, you do need to up your calories when working out, It is usually recommended to eat 30-60% of your exercise calories back since MFP tends to overestimate the actual amount of calories burned. If you are still a long way away from exercising eat as healthy as you can, but becoming discouraged is what causes failure. Any weight loss is an accomplishment. Keep at it.0
