First Time Marathon Runner

So, I agreed to do a marathon with my partner next year and I am not the best runner. I'm honestly not sure where to begin and how to start training for this. Any nutrition and exercise help would be great!

I too am hoping to do my first marathon next year - and am also not the quickest runner due in part to my short legs! I went to a talk by a running coach and the best pieces of advice I took were:
Work on a 3 week cycle - 3 weeks hard training then 1 week active recovery
Work on time on your feet - not distance. Especially true if doing the 3 week cycle as in the 3rd week, your distance per minute will be slower
Strength train - especially the glutes! Learn to love squats
Mix up your training runs by including some intervals on shorter runs
When you run your long run, take it at a comfortable pace then intersperse that pace with the odd mile at a slightly quicker pace. This will help (along with the intervals) with speed endurance
Good luck - hope this helps! I'm currently only at 9 miles in my training so a way to go yet
