Hey guys I started the C25K yesterday and today my hips and my left knee are killing me after running. I stretched before and after, and i put bengay on my knee when I got home. I really don't want to have to take a break after only day 2. Any ideas on what I can do to help the pain go away and fix anything I could have done?

Getting properly fit running shoes should help. With the wrong shoes your knees may not be supported properly. Check out local running stores (not big box stores). I got some at a store that had a treadmill with a camera pointed at your feet while running so they could check if your feet were supported correctly.

It could also be a case of going too fast too soon. I know when I started back up I wanted to run faster than my body was ready for and it resulted in hip and knee pain for me as well. Good luck, C25K is a great program!

Totally agree! if you are experiencing joint pain after one run and don't have any existing issues, I definitely think a new pair of good running shoes will make a world of difference. If you continue to try and fight through the pain, it can lead to more serious problems that cause you to take an even longer break. (speaking from experience, I ignored heel pain for several months and ended up with a stress fracture in my foot and was in a boot for 8 weeks. Not fun!!)

Try using alternating hot/cold packs to reduce internal swelling in thed joint/tissues. Maybe take some antiinflammatories, it could be swelling because your body isn't used to it and its your natural way of splinting for yourself.

I go barefoot jogging and land on the balls of my feet. I never have joint pain. Heel striking destroys your joints. However, it takes a while to work up to barefoot running.

Maybe this is my problem! I had no issues before and it seems ridiculous to hurt so bad after day 2. My running shoes are 7 years old after all....
