Weekend Blunders

As a preface, over the last 2 months, I've been slowly integrating better behaviors and decisions into my daily life to create a new lifestyle. I've battled eating disorders, fad diets, etc....So far, this is really working well for me, I really enjoy it and it's a lot easier than I thought it'd be! I don't put unrealistic expectations for myself when it comes to this, since I'm changing my lifestyle...I've done that before and failed. I use MFP on the web and via iPhone app to track what I'm eating, how much I'm exercising, to use as portion control, etc. I do extremely well during the week when I'm on my normal schedule, but when the weekend comes, my new eating habits are gone. Not always completely, but I'm eating fast food and not neccessarily watching my portion with said fast food. Then come Monday and I'm back to my daily grind. Like I said before, since I'm not used to eating healthy 100% and exercising 5 days a week, I don't let myself feel bad for indulging on the weekends. However, I would like to start finding a better way to handle eating well and splurging on the weekends. My fiance and I are very "on the go" over the weekend, so it's difficult to always pack a lunch or keep snacks handy. Does anyone have any ideas how to better integrate my new lifestyle-in-the-making on the weekends? Your input is much appreciated! Thanks!

I don't have great insight for you, but for years I ate healthy 5 days and fell off on the weekend. I am older so I just can't do that anymore - I will put on two pounds over the weekend and never get them back off again. So now if I know I am going to be out and about and eating fast food or dining out - I try and control and save some of my calories that day for those bigger meals. I also resigned myself to make the healthiest choice at fast food restaurants. Most of them have something that's on the better side. (ie: grilled chicken, salads, etc.) I feel better emotionally and I don't have my carb addiction activated that I have to fight during the next week. Hope this helps a little. Good luck on your journey!0

check out the best items you can any place you go. Hit your menu choice on your mobile app first. You'd be surprised. For instance, I found out that my usual Zaxby's snack meal had less fat and calories than the Zaxby's salad I would have ordered. If I know we're going out for dinner with friends, I make sure breakfast is low cal at home. Then I just try to get as close as possible and not worry about it.0

In the past I have found what works best for me, when I have to eat fast food, is to make the best choices I can....i.e. grilled chicken sandwich instead of a burger.....or a salad if it isn't loaded with all the junk. If I really just have to have the junky stuff, I cut it in half and give the rest to whoever I am with or throw it away BEFORE I start to eat. Don't be too hard on yourself....a healthy lifestyle isn't about feeling deprived....do the best you can and learn from your experiences!0

I understand completely and feel like I need the weekend to enjoy! However, I've found that by adding my intense exercise over the weekend, I don't feel guilty going out. I still try to make better choices than I would have in the past and add a salad to whatever I'm eating, like pizza or wings! It fills me up so I don't eat as much of the other stuff yet I still got to have it. Amazingly, I've now found that I'm having less trouble on the weekend BECAUSE I know I can still have some things I want. Best of luck!0

I make sure I have a good breakfast and a hard workout so even if I slip I have the calories to burn.0

Thanks, everyone! Aside from the MFP app, I also have a restaurant calorie app that I use too. Most restaurants are required now to label their foods with their nurtitional value, so it's not that I don't have any idea of how much I'm eating...It's just being able to overcome the temptations. I will try my best to order the healthier option, but when I think of McDonald's, I think chicken nuggets or a double cheeseburger and fries...not a grilled chicken snack wrap with a parfait. Though those are tasty options, they don't satiate that "need". It's still a bridge I'm battling to climb and have all the faith in myself that one day I'll get there. I just don't want to sabotage all my hard work during the week. I do let myself induldge in foods I love, because if I didn't, I'd completely fail. One step at a time! Best of luck to all of you as well!0
