Food scale recommendations

Hi all,

I need some food scale recommendations. I know there are a lot of them out there so need to know what some of you old-timers like to use that isn't going to break my bank.

Up until now, I've been using an Acculab V-1200, which is a scientific lab scale, but now need to replace it, and after pricing it, there's no way I can afford a $400 scale.

So I need something that's accurate, can switch between grams and ounces if needed, not too big, etc.

What does everyone like around here?

I bought a "sharper image" brand kitchen scale from bed bath and beyond for $20ish... target sells some kitchen scales that do all the stuff you want for around $15

I've had that just about a year. Never had an issue with it. I adore it!

I've tried several. OXO is my favorite. It tares quickly, which is important when I have a hand full of frozen stuff. It's not hard to clean. It's accurate (not all are!) and it has an easy-to-pull-out display, so I can put a plate on it and still read the numbers without any contortions.

It's also the most expensive. So, there's that.

The postal scale is also accurate, but had to read with a plate on it...and not designed for food, so has to be covered in plastic.

Others I tried took forever to tare or weren't accurate, etc.

I have the Ozeri Pro from Amazon and I love it. It is very accurate.

I second this suggestion, that's the one I have, too, and it's easy to use.

I'm not thrilled with the "Biggest Loser" symbol on it, but I found it cheap at Tuesday Morning a few years ago, and it had good reviews online, so I bought it. My husband actually uses it a lot more than me, weighing out portions of meat, etc. We have yet to need to change a battery out. It is very accurate and precise, and can do everything you mentioned wanting it to do. It is also very easy to use. The glass tray unscrews if you need to give it a thorough washing, but I've found just wiping the surface from time to time is really the only maintenance needed since we never use it for any lose ingredients.

I have the same one as Velveteen7845... it's inexpensive! Used it for about a year and had no problems, although I have had to change the batteries at least 4 times. But we use it for every meal. It's great.

I have an OXO. I bought it like 5 years ago, there's probably a newer better model than the one I have.

I use this scale (http://goo.gl/kLTv6u) and love it! It is easy to clean and use... I read that Alton Brown recommends it as well...

I've had this one for about 8 years and it's still going strong (but has no biggest loser icon on it)
