How long does it take to digest?

Options
I ate about 1,000 calories of Indian food last night, and about 3 hours later I threw it all up...(no clue why, was feeling sick & dehydrated all day from traveling, could have also been a bug...) ...or whatever was left in my stomach.

Did I already absorb all of the calories?

I was thinking I should keep them tracked in my dairy as-is and assume I just over estimated for the day and leave it at that.

You did not absorb all the calories. I would just write in your food diary that you threw up and not worry about the positive or negative impact of throwing up.

Don't quote me on this, but what I remember from basic biology:
    - you can only throw up what is in your stomach
    - You don't start absorbing nutrients until food has passed the stomach

So in theory following that logic you won't have absorbed any calories..

About half of the food you eat has left your stomach by the 3 hour mark. Total emptying of the stomach takes 4-5 hours. Since she threw up 3 hours after eating not all the food would have been in her stomach.

Thank you everyone! Feeling much better tummy-wise fortunately and I appreciate the information. I was curious.
