My doctor has recommended me to take BELVIQ, a new pill that is supposed to help with satiety....I am terrified of pills but he felt it was best due to some recent health issues I was having that require I lose weight again and lose it NOW. Has anyone tried this with any success? And have you had any bad side effects from it? Please do share!!! Thanks!!!!

I haven't tried it but the side effects would make me nervous, too. Did you discuss other options with the doctor, such as calorie counting/deficits, and exercise programs? I don't know your specific medical history but I would be nervous about taking a medication such as this, too. Second opinion maybe?0

You need to understand what Belviq is, it is a drug with a combination of an antidepressant (similar to Wellbutrin) and a drug similar to a drug used to for withdrawal from heroin and other similar addictive drugs by cutting down on the craving for the drug. What it does is work on your brain to cut down your food cravings and suppress the appetite.
I work for an MD and she has prescribed it for a few patients and only one of them says it's helped her, and at weigh in I don't really see it. It's extremely expensive and most insurance won't pay for it.
I'm not a fan of drugs that screw with the brain like that, there are several common side effects. If you don't have high blood pressure or heart problems you're much better off with Adipex. While it is a stimulant it is still safer overall than drugs that screw with the workings of your brain.
If you can take Adipex I would treat it as good and temporary addition to life style changing that will take and keep your weigh off. I take it and I would have already stopped it but amazingly it stopped my wheezing and I'm even pretty sure it helped with my mild sleep apnea. I've used numerous inhalers and an asthma drug and none of them stopped the wheezing but for some reason adipex did. We have a couple of other patients who've had the same effect from Adipex.
Can say I'd recommend Belviq though.

Actually, you are mistaking Belviq for another, newer, diet drug called Contrave. Contrave is a combination of Bupropion (brand name Wellbutrin) and naltrexone (a drug to help withdraw from opiates).
Belviq is the drug Lorcaserin.

Do you have problems with satiety? Belviq won't help you lose weight faster unless you eat less, but it may help you eat less if you eat to much because of lack of feeling of satiety. You can eat less without it, though - just use the food diary properly.
This a couple of months' old thread - how is it going?0 -
I was given a script from my Dr. But could not afford the $300 a month the pharmacy wanted.
My sister lost 35 lbs using it. She had to stop, due to side effects and gained it all back plus some.0
