Newbie to Myfitness pal

Hello all. I'm new to Myfitness pal as of today. My Dr mentioned it to me today when I went in for a weigh IN after a month of taking weight loss meds that he is trying me on. I just need motivation to keep at the exercise. BTW, I'm Teresa. I am 39 and gotten up to 170lbs. I didn't weigh that much with both of my pregnancies. So I knew something wasn't right, I've always been the smallest of all my siblings. I had my thyroids checked and there was a few minor issues there. The area I really need help in is my tummy area. And I know I can work on that with setups but I have a health issue with my back and neck that prevents me from being able to do setups. I had a car wreck back in 2006 that left me with several herniated disc in my back and my neck. And I've been wanting to get the AbRocket to help with that but financiallyi can afford it right now. So if anyone knows of other ways that I can achieve my setup goals without putting alot of strain on my back and neck, I would really appreciate it. I just started back with the walking. I'm in the northwest MS area if there's anyone close Who might want to group up and help keep each other motivated I'm in. Just add me !I need all the motivation I can get. I really need to lose this weight. I'm miserable and can't wear any of my jeans Now. I had to settle for stretchy pants. So not my style. I'm now down from 170 to 165.5! 45 more to go til I meet me goal! HELP ME PLZ

You can add me as a friend. I log everyday, good or bad...I started a low carb eating style about 3 weeks ago. You can view my diary log to see what I eat. MFP has me set at 1800 calories a day, and that pretty good. I weighed 290 about 6 years ago and now I'm at 218. Slow, but haven't gone up drastically at any time. Your body fat % is much more important than your weight. Sit-ups are not the best thing for your back, or really your abs either. 90% of a great body is what you eat, the rest is exercise.0

I'll add you. I'm on here a lot, love to give you support! The key to losing weight is diet above exercise. So if you can stick to your calorie goals you should lose the weight and then just do whatever exercises your body can safely handle. Good luck!0

Hello Teresa, I'm Rhoda from Yuma, AZ. SWIMMING low impact and great at toning and trimming!! That's basically my only big exercise! I've had neck cervical cages put in, left knee replaced 3 times in 4 years and my thyroid stopped working!! I was always small, now I'm down a total of 38#, 20 on MFP. 57 days in. I say swimming because that's what my orthopedic Dr. said I should do! I also do standing sit up about 3-4 days a week, anymore hurts me. Feel free to add me, I am real good at logging everything and telling everyone how good they are doing. That's always a plus!0

Hi Teresa! I'm new to MFP too, and I hope you like it as much as I do!
I'd like to second @ronrhoda 's suggestion to do swimming. I seem to get injured about once or twice a year, and I always come back to swimming as a way to get through it. I find swimming also gives my abs a great workout - all that turning from one side to another is great for your obliques.
But please don't worry that you can't afford an AbRocket - you really can't spot reduce to just get great abs. You need to lose weight (and lower your body fat%) all over, before you can really see your abs. I had one trainer remind me "we're all ripped under this nice layer of fat we all have." It's just a matter of getting lean enough to see it.
Having said that, if you are looking for ab exercises just to make sure you are working that area along with everything else...
There are standing ab exercises you can do that are easier on your neck and back than crunches or situps.

The plank is also a great simple exercise that can help develop your abs without putting strain on your neck and back.0
