I downloaded this app on July 13th. I have used it everyday and absolutely appreciate what it has to offer and I have lost 15 pounds since. I have changed my eating habits and began working out again. However, I do notice on my one cheat meal I manage to over indulge. For instance, last Friday I ate four slices of pizza and for this weeks cheat week I ate fries, sliders and mozzarella sticks (10) but still managed to lose weight because I usually only eat about 1400 calories a day sometimes 16 or 1700 max. Can I continue this way and still manage to see results?

Incorporate the foods you love while still maintaining a caloric deficit.

You shouldn't be eating 1400 calories. The minimum RDA net calories is 1500 for men; and even that would be too low for you I reckon.

CICO = eat whatever you want.

Yes, you will continue to see results, regardless of what you eat, so long as you maintain a calorie deficit.

But I'd question whether your calorie goal is appropriate for you. Your calorie goal needs to be appropriate for your height, age, weight, activity level & gender. I'd bet that what you're eating now is much lower than it should be. Your profile shows too that you only have 12 lbs to lose. With that little to lose you should have a smaller deficit so that you're not burning more muscle than you want (which is what happens with an overly aggressive goal).

But yes, Calories in, calories out. Doesn't matter what you eat, if you burn more than you consume you will lose weight. Nutritionally though, paying attention to your macronutrients is important.

I don't starve myself and I eat three meals. Have two snacks and a protein shake on days I eat. I've been thinking about increasing the calorie intake a bit because I wanted to add some muscle along with weight loss. I suffered a broken ankle and gain a lot of weight while I was bedridden... I've just about took off all te weight and got back to shooting around on the court. I was just suprised I dropped the weight so quickly even though I have been very thin my whole life until the injury. Thanks for the replies; I'll bump my calorie a bit to about 1600 daily or so.

Chances are you're not going to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time at the normal rate of a cut/bulk regimen.

    Nevertheless, I recommend weight training to preserve as much muscle mass as possible (seeing as you're on a relatively low calorie intake) - programs;
    • New Rules of Lifting For Women
    • Strong Curves
    • ICF 5x5
    • Stronglifts 5x5

    Cut, then bulk.

Or recomp. It's a lot slower though. 3

I understand what you're saying. I am definitely weight training now. I come three times a week and do four sets and 10 reps of basically every machine at the gym. I'm relatively new so I'm learning on the fly about working and things of the sort. Thanks for the advice.

If you do it properly and eat sufficient calories you shouldn't need a "cheat" ...the food you love can be incorporated in your general diet

I'm a 5'8 woman and I lost the majority of my weight eating around 1800 calories ...1400 is too low for a man

Get off the machines and into the free weights as quickly as you can

Strong lifts or ice cream fitness as Isaak posted ...get that core engaged

Yes, of course you can lose weight by eating lower six days a week and at maintenance the seventh. Even God took a day off. ;)

I think you should plug your numbers into the MFP and follow the calorie guides. If you starve yourself, binging always follows. Even anorexics binge. People who binge don't generally do it on healthy foods, either. They tend to eat like crap when they binge. So, while they're getting more calories, that's all they're getting. They don't nourish themselves.

Do this the smart and healthy way. Don't starve and binge. :)

But I'm not starving myself by any means. I just select healthy options with relatively low calories. I eat fruits and vegetables, wraps, steak, tuna, etc

I will start with the free weights this upcoming week. I just wanted to get back accustomed to the gym

I'll bump my calorie intake up also and hopefully the weight still comes off. I go to the gym three times a week and walk everyday for 25 mins or so

Your body needs a basic amount of nutrition's. When you eat lower then 1500 for some time, or longer, you can get short of those important nutrition's your body need to use everyday, by just living, breathing, your organs functioning etc. And like at least maintaining some muscle. Which will help you later on when you dont want to lose weight anymore. Because muscles burned/need calories :)
So the 1500 calories is basically for when you only be alive...and doing nothing else than that.
