How accurate is Map my walk/hike/bike etc.?

Does anyone use MapMyWalk/hike/bike etc? I hiked/walked the woods today and it said I burned 700 calories. I was sweating and it's a fairly good workout, but I was just walking my dog and I don't feel like it could possibly be that much. I had my phone with me and let it do the mapping using my data/satellite however it works

Cut it in half.0

I've found that with MMR I have to check the map after I've walked my dog- it puts in a ton of exaggerated zigs and zags into the map that seriously up the distance (and hence calories).
I usually have it mapping while I'm walking her, get home, then 'create a route' using the 'follow the roads/trails' tool and log that with the same time (then delete the first one).0
