A NSV victory that I'm truly proud of

I've been on MFP for a while now and it's certainly helped, but up until 5 days ago, I wasn't exercising like I should have been because I was a smoker and I drank quite a bit :smokin: :drinker: . If you'd asked me to go for a 1.5 mile run without stopping for a breath, I would've rolled my eyes and said, "Yeah, maybe later," because I didn't really feel like I was capable of doing much more than a walk around the block. This caused my weight to fluctuate a lot; before Christmas of last year, I'd managed to get down 15 pounds from my SW and I was feeling awesome. Then, the Holidays hit, and before I knew it, I was drinking a lot more and basically holing myself up inside because of the cold midwestern winter.
But NOW, I've managed to set my life in the right direction. I have a bit of work to do, but I've managed to kick the smoking habit and I haven't bee drinking as much as I used to. On top of this, I've eased back into running and I'm beginning to remember why I loved it so much during high school. I can now run that 1.5 miles without stopping for a breath - and I only plan on running further and further each day! Also, for a scale victory, I've dropped 2 pounds since kicking the cigarettes and starting to run. Whoo!

Good for you!! I quit smoking a year ago next week and I feel better now than I have in my whole life. This time last year I had been a smoker for half of my life. It only gets better from there. Congratulations on quitting smoking and running a mile and a half with out stopping!! Keep up the good work!!0

Congrats. I haven't had a smoke in 2.5 years. Not one. No cheating while out drinking. It definitely changes your life for the better. I smoked for almost 10 years. It is really hard in the beginning, but as the months add up, it starts to seem weird that you ever smoked in the first place. At least for me. Stick with it, it gets easier after a few weeks. Not to mention, you'll get to 'find' places to spend that extra cash.0

Well done OP - I am 3 weeks into being a non smoker.
I've only dropped a single lb in that time but I am so very close to goal weight that I am not fussed.
It would be nice to drop the last 2lbs and get to my actual goal but personally I think giving up smoking and not gaining have to be my current priorities.
Where did you get your smoking ticker from OP? I love it!0 -
Awesome way to turn things around. Good for you!0

30 year smoker, gave up 7 months ago. My lung function actually worsened for a while, but I am finally noticing it's easier to breathe when i exercise. It took that long. So I can't think of a better time to really hit it and lose 30 pounds. Good on you. Don't give yourself ANY excuse to have another cigarette again.0
