Hi friends. I searched the interwebs and this community forum but haven't quite found what I'm looking for.
I have this habit or flexing my tummy area muscles in a bad way. Bad like how some people have bad posture and need rehabilitated. I cannot determine which muscles I'm using though and clearly I haven't been able to stop. I push or flex my gut out. For this post I flexed various ways, hard and long to try to explain what it feels like.
Imagine you're tryin to make an exaggerated beer belly for comic purposes. Now grab that beer belly on both sides like you're going to wiggle it, thumbs up, fingers down. It DOES NOT feel like the muscles I'm using in my bad habit are the same I use when trying to force out a beer belly posture. The beer belly posture uses, for me, lower muscles. Perhaps because I am reallllllly pushing so other muscles are recruited. It DOES feel a little bit like you are trying to stabilize yourself, say going from sitting cross legged to extended your legs out and consequently leaning back just slightly. Except I do it ALLL the time. And I feel like it's bad. If I were just flexing my abs allllll day, I'd be able to feel them stronger than they are, right? Cause they're not at strong. Really.
Contenders: diaphragm? abs. I don't know?

Sounds like you have really bad posture. Google "pelvic tilt". It's the opposite to what you do. you basically flex your upper stomach in, and tuck your tailbone under and push your groin area forwards and up. My dad is a chiropractor and he taught me that to stop lower back pain and improve posture.0

Thank you! I'm not sure if either of us are right, but it's worth a shot! My "posture" situation now makes my already a little bit flabby tummy pooch out even furtherI wonder about my pelvic floor? Hmm.

+1
Anterior pelvic tilt is a possibility. It happens to a lot of us that sit a lot. You have have weakened glute muscles and abdominals coupled with shortened hamstrings and hip flexors.0
