It is easy to lose water weight if you want to be dehydrated but then again its very easy to get it back. Focus on burning calories and deficit. Drink lots of water too, your body needs it so don't try to lose water weight.

I find it is difficult to keep water weight off during my period; however the most effective way in general is to lower your sodium, sugar, and alcohol. I remember my first two weeks of cutting I lost a few pounds just by cutting those things completely out or decreasing them.

    Just water weight, or swelling?

I would say to watch your sodium, keep drinking lots of water, and if you have swelling, elevate your feet at night to help control that.

The more water I drink, the less water weight I have. When my body knows there is plenty of water in supply it won't store water weight... But if I have more sodium than usual or I have an off day where I can't drink as much water than my body just holds on to the little water I do have.

Drink plenty of water and keep your sodium at a healthy level. But you might need to accept that sometimes your body needs to hold onto a little extra water. It's not always something that you want to try and force your body to release.

    Less sodium, more water.

You can't really keep it off. You will gain and lose it. Exercise causes muscle to retain water, sodium causes water retention, and hormones can do it too.
