Calorie change with weight change

Ok, this might sound like a stupid question but does your calories change when you lose weight? I followed weightwatchers until I reached my goal then swapped over to MFP so know my points on that went down as I lost weight. I just happened to be messing around with my 'goal' of how much I want to lose each week and my calories have gone up?? I thought they'd have gone down? I've been at about 1360 cals for losing 1lb a week and have lost 2lb. My cals never changed when I changed my weight so I thought nothing of it, only when I changed my goal about. But now it's saying I should be having 1400 cals to lose 1lb per week....is that right? As I said, I would have thought it should go down not up?

I've just realised I've put on some weight since I was at goal so is it because my cals never changed when I put my new heavier weight in so has updated now that I've played about with it since losing 2lb (but still heavier than my goal). Not sure if that makes sense?

    Depends on how you lose the weight. When I added that I lost .4lbs it dropped my calories from 1290 to 1280, but I also do like 1000-2000 calories worth of exercise a week too and that elevated it when I changed my goal, but not by much....

    Thanks, think I've worked out - edited my original post. I originally weighed 137lbs when I was at goal for WW so that's the weight I was at on MFP to begin with. I'm currently 145lb so I'm guessing it didn't increase my cals when I put my new, heavier weight in and is just sorting it now. Bit strange it didn't change without me playing about with my goal though.

    Moving this up so I don't start my own post I just lost a few pounds and my calories increased by about 50 a day. Why would that be? I heard they often go down as you lose weight.

    the smaller you are, the less energy (calories) your body requires to perform the same things. a calorie is a unit of energy and when you start thinking in terms of energy and how much energy it takes to move something then it makes perfect sense.

    It takes a lot more energy to move a Ford F-150 than it does to move a Honda Civic.

    I would say glitch...calories should move downwards as you lose weight.

    My allotted calories drop by about 60 for every 10 pounds of weight loss.
  • if there is less than a 10 pound weight change, will we see any change in the goal calories?
