Why do I look fatter in pictures than in the mirror? Is it just me or have you experienced this? :o

Lighting? angle? think we can all say that we have experienced this! try not to worry too much about it, just keep on keeping on

Different angle, pose, lighting, etc will affect the photo. If you're mostly comparing to how you look in the morning and the photos are taken after you've eaten then you've probably bloated a bit. Also looking in the mirror you're probably standing up straight, whereas you might be slouching more in photos. Focal length of the lens also changes how we look dramatically (google focal length face comparison to see what I mean).

I'll try not to slouch. Srsly, I still haven't found the right angle for me. Ha! :D

I did a thread kind of about this, looking fatter is just a symptom of your brain thinking you just look wrong:

With photos, you don't have depth perception, so it might trick your mind into thinking the fat spreads out more.

A mirror is real time with instant feedback. You can move around and adjust your posture until you find the most flattering one. Photos are taken without your feedback, and since you can`t see yourself from the camera`s standpoint, you get stuff you're not happy with.

I posted a thread not too long ago asking the same thing. Depth perception and 2D vs 3D image were the most common responses.

I have always heard the saying "the camera adds 10 lbs."

Interesting article about this : http://petapixel.com/2012/07/17/why-the-camera-adds-10-pounds-seeing-ourselves-in-pictures/

I hate pictures of me. People always take them when I have my mouth open or my arm at weird angles that make me look horrible.

Because you aren't photogenic. Neither am I! I knew a lady once who was slightly overweight, not much, had long brown hair, and a relatively plain face. In a photograph, she looked like a beauty queen. It was unbelievable. She was photogenic in droves. I would rather look worse than my pics than better, because then when people only see me by my pic, then meet me, I look better rather than worse

That's why I hate it when family or friends want to include me in the picture. I emotionally feel like Sean Penn when they try and take my picture.

My sister always puts her children in front of her ;)

This!! My brother's like bigger than me but miraculously looks thin and good in the pictures. What kind of sorcery is this?

I'm weirdly photogenic is I know it is being taken and can smile and pose. Otherwise, candid photos of me are an atrocity.

Taking a selfie makes everything easier. I can choose the 'right' angle. ;)

Ohh me too! I always feel so bleh and dumpy. I'm short and once the cape is on, it's just blob-city.
