What doctor prescribed that to you? General practitioner or specialist?

General dr. I have taken it before. It really works.0

How does these pills teach you to eat in moderation?? It doesn't, why not just eat at a reasonable deficit and exercise. It's sustainable, then pills and it doesn't cost anything.0
-
Well becauss when u have many yrs of poor eating habits it is hard just to jump on a diet. There is nothing wrong with having your dr prescribe appetite suppresants SHORT TERM to get things going.0

Yes, BUT, successful weight loss is 2 parts - pills may help you with part 1 (the weight loss part) .....but pills don't prepare you for part 2 (the maintenance part).
Pills are a short sighted approach. Keep measuring and logging portions. Then step away from the pills and see if you can handle things (without them). That will be the true test.

Like i said it is short term. If you are not on phentermine why reply?-1

Taken it before, it worked, then why take again. Don't kind understand. But anyway, good luck.0

Because public forums are places where people express opinions. Welcome to the internet.
AND because (decades ago) I went to a doctor for weight loss.......yet here I am.
Like I said.....I wouldn't describe my prescription (aided) weight loss as "it works." If taking (speed) in my case worked...I wouldn't be overweight now.0 -
I knew when I saw the subject line, there'd be some negativity. I don't think there's anything wrong with taking a stimulant to help you curb your appetite. I've tried phen, it was a tiny little capsule, and it's pretty gentle, I've tried pre-workout drinks that are stronger. There are over the counter stuff that say take 3 and I can only handle one capsule. The part about being prepared for the maintenance part, your body does that for you, you get used to eating less and if you weigh less you crave less food. the only issue I have with stimulants is that it seems to take more each week for them to work, so I try skipping days. when I crave a sweet, I have a protein, if I still crave food, I have a cup of coffee or tea.0

I didn't see any "negativity" either.0 -
I have taken it several times before in the past and it is just not worth it. it does work and you do lose the weight quick and you feel great however you pile it right back on when you stop taking them. Each time I went off of them my appetite was RAVENOUS. Literally. Now here I am bigger than I have ever been before. I will admit tho that I did not follow a plan after I stopped taking them. I was happy with my weight loss and took for granted that it would pile right back on. Now trying this doing it the better way, my limiting my calories, carbs, and exercising. Also having my drinks in moderation. I can see why you would want that jump start because it is definitely a huge help. Just make sure you stay on track once you stop taking them. and FIGHT through the hunger you will feel as if your life depended on it. Good luck!0

Belfle-thank you. I agree with you.
Everyone else- thank you for your opinions. Lets just agree to disagree. Good luck on your mission.0 -
oh if you need help on curbing appetite, go to your local library and look into some weight loss books, I check out a few every week and get pointers. I like the Dr. Hyman one, discusses healthy fat and protein as important factors in weight loss. there's a 10 day book by him. I've been eating this way for years and now it's just 2nd nature.0

ThAnk you soo much for that info!0

Wow. I take phentermine too. It is very helpful for those of us that are used to eating an entire mixing bowl of cereal at one sitting. In the beginning, your stomach is looking for the same volume as it had always gotten. When you start doing portion control, it rebels with nasty hunger pains. The phentermine helps with that. It's not a weight loss pill, it's an appetite supressant. A mild stimulant. No different than the bodybuilders that take an ec stack. OP, it can help in the beginning, but if you have a responsible doctor, he will only allow you to take it for 3-4 months. By then, your stomach should be used to normal portion sizes, and not growl at you every 3 minutes.0

This is my first day on it. Adding you OP.0

i was put on phentermine last week, just started it monday and have lost about 10 lbs, dr put me on an 800 cal/day diet, wanting too loose about 100lbs, starting at 227 want down to at least 125-3
-
800 calories a day? Yikes. I do 1200 calories, and I have been losing consistently for a few months now. My starting weight was 226lb, and I just hit 189 lb this morning. I average 3-4 lbs a week.0

I started phen almost 2 weeks ago. Its a great appetite suppressant. When I do eat, its in moderation & I log everything. This way when I'm through with the phen I'll already be adapted to smaller portions & calorie control. My Dr. prescribed it because of my constant struggle with weight loss. A previous coworker used it too & got great results.0

Good luck to everyone, but this isn't the way to go about doing things. What will you learn from an external appetite suppressant? You need to learn that being a little hungry isn't the end of the world and that some foods are more filling than others. A pill that suppresses your hormones won't do it.
You found this site. Buy a food scale, use the recipe builder, log accurately. Results will follow.

If the medication helps with the hunger pains, then there is nothing wrong with using it as a tool. I would much rather take a short term medication than get a highly invasive surgery that removes 3/4 of my stomach. There is no reason to discourage others from losing weight. To each his own.0

Add me! I just started Phentermine too!
