Hey guys, just browsing on the net and on one website a guy mentioned shiritaki noodles, which are apparently VERY low in calories and very good for you. Does anyone know if this is right, and if so can I get them in England?? I have cut down on pasta loads, as high in calories, but would definatley like to try these???? Advice from you guys please?? And are there any other substitutes I could try instead of pasta? xxx Thanks guys xx

Never tried it but you asked for alternatives to pasta and I have one suggestion. Use zucchini as your spaghetti and add your pasta sauce to it. Just steam and shred it, drain any excess water and there you have it. :)

Have you tried spaghetti squash? It is also an excellent alternative. :)

shirataki noodles are 20 calories per serving and it comes in 2 servings per package. so if you eat the whole thing, its only 40 calories. i never tried them but i heard they taste odd. try typing it on youtube.com to find videos and reviews about what people thought about them!

I'm not sure where you can find them in England but in the US they have them at health food stores and the larger grocery chain stores near the tofu.

I just had these last night with some sauted peppers, onions and tomato sauce. They do have a bit of an odd flavor if you don't rinse them properly but like tofu, they will take on the flavor of whatever they are cooked with. The texture isn't quite the same as pasta, too soft and squishy though I am willing to give up a bit of texture to save 200 calories.

I have also tried them in stir fry in place of rice and they worked really well.

I would not recommend them. I tried a HungryGIrl recipe with them (the fettucine alfredo). The texture is just so weird. Very chewy and slimy.

I am definitely going to try these. I tried the spaghetti squash and thought it was absolutely horrible (it doesn't help that squash makes me gag either! LOL)

Yes, zucchini are courgettes. We use the French, in America they use the Italian word.

I just had dinner, I made shiritake noodles with Thai peanut sauce and srirachi with fresh basil. It was amazing good! After the first bowl I made it all over again. Yum yum
