Can i still build muscle with a crap diet?

Im so stressed right now i cant focus on the diet for weight loss but i can still lift. i want to build muscle and get stronger then I will just do cardio and diet when im mentally focused to do so.
if i take a protein smoothie after a work out will that help?

    If you consume adequate calories and protein, and provide stimulus via resistance training, crap food will help you build muscle. Depending on overall diet will affect health and body fat issues, but yes, muscle gains can occur.

    You need to eat a calorie surplus to build muscle.

    Why can't you focus on your diet? Do you not eat your normal foods everyday and including them in your calorie goal?

    i stress eat, so i will eat good all day and then pull out a second dinner at night or something bad in the last 3 hours before i go to sleep. I stay up late.
