Hi. New here. Going over calories!!

Hi. I am new here and I was told by the computer that to lose weight I need to be eating 1,200 calories a day. I keep going over and I am barely eating. I don't get to drink milk or have any dessert
What am I doing wrong?
Is there a way someone can view my dairy to see what is not good about my choices?

Try eating water based foods. Or things low in calories, but allot of them for example broccoli , that way you fill up with not eating alot of cals. What I also did was google low cal or healthy recipes... hope this helps! Or take a look at what I have eaten, its only been two days but I have been full!0 -

You should set your weight loss to only 1 lb a week, starting out at 1,200 calories can be difficult. I've never been able to eat below 1,300, so I have myself set for 1.5 lbs a week.0

hi may i suggest dividing your calories to 5 meals
300 breakfast
150 snack
300 lunch
150snack
300 dinner
this way you won't go over board
and you won't get hungry0 -
I make sure to exercise for at least 45 minutes per day so I can eat back those exercise calories (MFP recommends doing this). It's REALLY hard for me to only consume 1200 calories, so I depend on my exercise calories!0

I have been doing 1200-1300 calories a day for 3 1/2 months now, with an occassional bump to 1400. I am a big guy (started at 305 lb) and have been able to stay well fed and full, so I know that it can be done. Here are a few tips (and they are pretty much something everybody would recommend):
Stay away from processed food. Nothing out of a can or a box, except maybe tuna fish.
Nothing fried! No fast food. Avoid sauces. Mustard is your friend.
Spices and seasonings are your friend. Just use actual spices, not the storebought mixes like Emeril's or whatever because they usually contain sugar and salt. Read the labels. Experiment.
Lots of fresh veggies. And then more veggies.
Chicken, turkey, ground turkey and use as lean as possible - boneless, skinless, etc.
PORTION CONTROL!
I personally log everything just before I eat it, just to give me one last time to make the right decision.
Prepare healthy foods in advance, so they are the most convenient things in your house. I make soups once a week and preportion them. I also keep a large container full of a colorful salad ready at all times.
Snack on things like apples, oranges, pretzels. Or more veggies.
No oils for cooking. Use nonstick pans and sprays.
Read labels and start to learn what you can and can't eat in terms of calories and sodium. Finding the best choices in the supermarket takes time.
It's work, yes. Especially if you aren't comfortable in the kitchen. But, for me, weight loss became a priority and I determined that it was more important than the inconvenience. Now it's a way of life and I spend very little time thinking about it. You'll get there. Keep trying and learning something new every day.
Here is a link to a thread that I started with some photos of low calorie meals. Most of these are 3-400 calories or less. Other folks are starting to post theirs, so you may find some good ideas here.

I know that everybody takes a different approach and some folks may disagree with my rules. I am only saying that these things work for me and I know that you can eat satisfying meals for 1200 or 1300 calories a day. It may take a while of learning and refining your approach but you can do it. You will need to decide for yourself if that calorie limit seems right for you and bump it up if it doesn't.0 -
Well, I sometimes go over the calorie limit as well, but to even it out, you must burn the calories you have passed. Like if you eat 1800 calories- burn off 600 that day, so you can eat your desserts, just make sure you burn it off!!!0
