    log and weigh everything you eat. and eat a caloric deficit. google TDEE to get the calories you should be eating at to lose weight. you will not lose 40lbs in 3 months. especially if that puts you at your goal weight. meaning if you had 100 to lose and wanted to lose 40 in 3 months *maybe* just *maybe* you could

    Ditch the time frame. Fast weight loss often sacrifices a larger percentage of lean muscle mass than most people are comfortable with. Set a moderate goal......and lose fat

    Pound per week goals

    Between 25-40 lbs set to lose 1 lb range
    Between 15-25 lbs set to lose 1 -.50 lb range
    Less than 15 lbs set to lose 0.5 lbs range

    Log & weigh your food. My suggestion "regular" food. That way when you get to maintenance, you've learned about how you eat (the good & the bad).

    Exercise helps.....but it's mainly for fitness. Add some cardio for heart & lungs. Add some strength training t help keep lean muscle.

    Finally - be patient.
