suggestions for an accurate/reliable bathroom scale?

I don't have access to a reliable scale at the moment (nothing at home, just a very old clunky non-digital one at the gym), and I'm thinking of getting one to properly track my progress.

Does anyone have suggestions for what kind/company to get that's reliable? I don't need anything fancy that does anything other than say a weight in lbs.

I have a Taylor scale. I got it for about $25 at Walmart. It measures in 0.2lb increments. I really like it. It's very sturdy and is made of stainless steel. I think it's accurate as long as it's placed on a flat surface. I had to move it from my bathroom to bedroom closet since the ceramic tiling in my bathroom was giving random numbers at times due to the scale not being level. Other than that, I really like it.

On the other end of the spectrum, I got a fitbit Aria scale. It's selling for about $130, and I think that's crazy overpriced. But it does sync automatically with fitbit as well as MFP. In the past I have not been great about writing down my weight, so that solved one problem for me. Now I don't really think about it, I just weigh myself as soon as I wake up and it syncs with my phone or computer.
You can have different profiles, so for instance, both my husband and I use it and it saves the correct weight to each profile. I'm not sure that would actually work if we were closer in weights - like, what if we both weighed around 180, would it have to ask who was on the scale? Anyway, it also measures bodyfat % (which I really hope is not accurate, because if it is, ouch), which I don't rely on for a real value, but I do track it just to see if it's going up or down.

No joke I like the mirror it don't tell you a arbitrary number that can go up or down from water consumption or bloating. If your gym has a old doctor scales those are the most accurate.

You think so? I thought old scales might not be working right anymore, it looks very old. If it's accurate, I'll use it. Not really sure how to use it haha, but I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, that's definitely a lot fancier than I need, but that sounds cool for you & your husband! Also more money than I'd like to spend...

We have an Aria Fitbit also, which we really like. Our old scale would vary by 5lbs depending on the side of the scale you leaned on, or where on the bathroom floor you moved it to. If we weighted ourselves four times in a row, we would get four different weights in a 4 to 6lb range. The Aria is consistent and we love the automatic sync feature. However, my husband and son are very close in weight, so my husband does have to delete the second weight on his Fitbit account. Our son does not have an account, I am not sure if we could select it on the scale if he did. It is expensive, but we tried cheap and after throwing out 3 scales for inconsistency we bought the Aria.

@kae612, I think that as long as the inaccuracies are consistent it doesn't matter if it is accurate. Same thing with weighing food, if your weight goes in the direction you want things are working out. Best regards.

update: I think I really do need to get my own scale because the scale at the gym just...constantly moves. The little needle/bar thing that you push along until it gets to the notch and then it's supposed to float? It doesn't stop moving.

It bounces around so much I can get within around a 2 or 3lb guess where it doesn't touch the top bar or the bottom bar, but if I'm aiming for a 1lb/week loss I won't know if I'm doing anything right before about a month passes. I'd like a better guess because I'm still testing things out.

It's also just so so public. It's next to the water fountain so it's always covered in water, and I'd be standing very close to a person using the water fountain and the machine next to it if I was on the scale.

I have my eye on amazon reviews for some good moderately priced home scales. The weight watchers scales had some pretty mixed reviews, but were pretty decently priced. There's an "eat smart" company that seems to do well. I'd like to not spend over $50, and closer to $20 if possible with a decently working machine. If anyone has suggestions for things that have worked well I'm open to hearing some more.

It's likely I will need to keep the scale "hidden" from my family - if not completely out of their knowledge, than completely out of their sight because scales upset my mom. So something not too large would be good as well. Most of the rooms in our house have carpeting (bedroom) or tile (bathroom). I've heard of scale problems with both of those floorings. Any info would be awesome! I'm doing some research for the next couple days I think, but I'm going to order one this week. :)

I have a $25 Taylor one as well. It's a glass one, I love it! My old one was so old and big and HEAVY. It had made it through a lot of moves, some international. It just wan't reliable anymore.
