This really is a matter of personal preference, since everyone's level of fitness is very different. how do you feel while doing those exercises? Do you feel like it is too much now, or are you feeling good afterwards? It sounds like it is good for right now. You can always increase the amount if what you are doing seems like it is too easy.

I usually exercise every day. Nothing major...just 30-60 minutes of cardio. I do some sort of strength training 2-3 days of the week for 15-30 minutes.
Congrats on going to the gym! 40 minutes is a great length of time. Keep up the great work!

Should I do the strength training on different days and do the cardio on different days or should I keep doing it together the way I'm doing it

You can do both on the same day, it really makes no difference. I do both on the same day. However, I always do my power lifting first so I can perform each rep and set at the max amount that I can. Good luck with your workouts. You are off to a good start with having lost 2 pounds.

If you are commited then just try and move more in general. If its the gym then any is better than none, but I think between 3 and 6. Ofc it depends as much on what you are doing for how long and the intensity. For weight loss id suggest a mix of cardio and resistance as they offer different and complementary benefits.

Loose skin is more due to genetics and amount to lose, but resistance can help preserve the underlying muscle.
Btw well done for going and aim for consistency, maybe try soemthing you enjoy and dont be afraid to pish a little so you improve.

On a very general level as to amounts and types of exercise then please look at this guide.

Hi, I think it depends on what you feel comfortable with! I think it's about the following:

    1) If you can be consistent - it doesn't matter how many times you work out a week, as long as you keep going. For example you're likely to see results even if you go 2x a week for a year than if you went 4x a week for just a few weeks and stopped
    2) What makes you feel good, if you feel satisfied with 3x times a week etc.
    3) Depends on your goals and how quickly you want to see results

Also on the toning, I think it's good to do both on a day's workout if you are going 3x a week :) I'm the other way round to Eileen_S, I prefer to get the cardio out of the way then do the weights! It's all depends on what you prefer. I hope that helps and good luck on your journey!

If you are unsure, I would ask the trainers at your gym, who can also advise you on various exercises and make you a programme. Saying that you're doing great! I exercise way more than you, but have regular 4 week meetings with the trainers in the gym. Remember some exercise is soooo much better than no exercise. We all started off somewhere and I am not a skinny minny by any means, still got over 50lbs to loose. The guess is to push yourself, cardio you should be able to talk, but whilst out of breath and not feeling like you are dying. Weights, when you do your 12-15 reps (I do 3 sets) by set 3 your muscles should be aching, it should be getting really hard and those last reps should be really hard to get maximum impact from your exercise. Good luck and keep up the good work, 2lbs is a fab start! The exercise should start to make things easier for you soon, and help toning you up.

I don't know that strength training will help with skin sag, that's based more on your age and genetics. Losing weight more slowly will also allow more time for your skin to recover. That's certainly not a reason not to lift, though! You'll retain more muscle and since it's much easier to retain muscle you already have than build it later you'll be way ahead of the game when you reach you goal weight.
Should I do the strength training on different days and do the cardio on different days or should I keep doing it together the way I'm doing it

It's really what works for you. If you like or need to have every other day off, then do both on the same day. You should recover the next day, whichever way works for you.

I work full time and go to school part time, as well as have a family, so I don't have an extended amount of time each day. I run every other day and lift weights 2-3 days each week on days I don't run. This way I have basically the same amount of time set aside each day (60-75 minutes) and have my recovery built in. As I said, it's all in what works for you.

I exercise every day ... but the intensity varies.

Some days might only be a 20-30 min walk. Other days will be a long bicycle ride or hike.

Yesterday, I didn't have much time, so I did a 10 min walk ... a part of getting to work ... plus about 10 min climbing up stairs at work. I got up 3 times, walked down to the ground floor, then hiked back up again to my floor, counting only the time it took to get up. It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing.

And today, I walked for an hour. Briskly and including some hills, not just a casual stroll.

How do you feel, are your knees sore? I run three times a week (C25K) and have rest days in between but I exercise every day (walking or cycling). If I feel I need a rest day, just do it, sort of listen to my own body but still push myself. No feel exercise is beneficial for physical and mental health so want to move most days and it boosts my calorie burn so supports my weight loss plan from being calorie deficient
