I've recently started my fitness pal and would really like some help. I really want to join the gym but I'm worried people will judge me. I have about 28kg to loose to get to my first goal weight and it seems so far away. Any suggestions would be appreciated and I would love to chat to anyone in a similar situation

Life's too short to let fear keep you from doing the things you want to do!

But would you feel more confident if you lost a little weight first? What if you bought some flattering workout clothes? Went with a friend?

Everyone starts somewhere. Some of the most fit people at your gym might have started where you are now. Plus most of the people at the gym are busy concentrating on their own workout to pay attention to you and how you look. I go to a few different gym locations - they all have people of every size, shape and fitness level working out there.

People constantly judge and fear being judged. It's what they do (just look at the forums)!

It's no reason to let it stop you from doing what you want to do. Ultimately, those opinions don't matter unless you let them interfere with your progress. No matter where you're starting from, working hard towards your goal is admirable.

A lot of gym memberships come with tours or, better yet, free PT sessions. I suggest taking advantage of them to become familiar with the facilities and gain confidence in doing what you want to do at the gym. After that, make gym time "me" time and go in with focus.

Everyone was new at some point.
Getting an introduction by an instructor really helps, because they can show you how to use the machines. That way you don't need to feel you don't know what you are doing.

As to people judging, well don't worry about it. Their opinion can't hurt you anyway. But it is most likely they won't even pay you any attention. Most people are at the gym to work out and focus on themselves.

You are going there to improve your life, don't let anyone stop you from reaching your goal!

Thank you for all your motivational words. I went out and bought some clothes to wear to the gym and they're not as bad as u thought. I feel pretty comfortable to be honest. Now that u have bought them I feel I have to attempt it so Friday is the moment of truth. Thank you once again

Good for you. Don't let other people stand in your way.
Had to check my fears (and ego) at the door when I started back in the gym.
