Metamucil to up my fiber?

I bought a bottle at walmart for about 6 bucks. Equate brand.
Says to take 1 tsp daily. Or more.
It said supplies 14% of daily fiber. I think.
My plan is in days I don't take enough fiber in for the day, I drink a dose or two.
Good idea or bad idea?
My goal in fiber is 25 grams a day.
Is this just for old people that have constipation? Now I'm confused.
I don't need help going potty #2. I just want more fiber and easy way.

I don't think it's a bad idea, but fruits and veggies have a good amount of fiber. I make my fiber goals without even trying now. If you want to eat your fiber, have more of them. Raspberries are the yummiest high-fiber foods around, IMO. :)

    The Metamucil works, too.

When one of the barflys had an intestinal blockage and ended up spending a few months in the ICU, the rest of them asked what might help them not end up that way. Anyone who has spent a good deal of time around drunks will not be surprised to hear that "Stop drinking", "eat better" and "get more exercise" did not get rounds of applause. "I don't know. Ask the doctor!" was also not a hit with the drunks, who are not generally huge fans of visiting doctors.

"I guess you could take some Benefiber or Metamucil to help things move along..." They all liked that a lot. In fact, they'd buy the stuff in rounds, keep it in the bar and take it there. It was on the little step-shelf things with the booze. When CatDog came on TV, they'd yell, "CatDog! CatDog!", which was the bartenders' clue that someone would have to hand the bottle to one of them so they could all swallowed their fiber.

I did not make that story up. If you know anyone who was ever a drunk, they'll say, "Yes, barflys have stupid routines they get into and everyone goes along for no good reason." Just like they all have to sit in the same place or the bar will fall down, they have stupid routines. And in that bar, it was Fiber Time when CatDog came on.

    what?

OP I used to take metamucil everyday. It's fine.
But also try and incorporate more high fibre fruits and vegies into your day.

I added the story for the heck of it.

Every single time I think of Metamucil, I think of that story, so I thought I'd share.

I hope the OP doesn't think I was comparing them to drunks. I so wasn't. I just felt like sharing it. :)

Guess it's cheaper than buying a quest or a victory bar

Always better to use natural means than artificial when it comes to your body.

Add a tbsp or 2 of flaxseed meal to your yogurt or oatmeal each morning. You won't notice any difference in taste, just a bit of texture. Works for me :)

It's fine, and it works. I often take psyllium husk powder...which is the same thing but without all the flavorings and sweeteners. An additional benefit I discovered when I started taking it...it keeps you feeling full on less calories. So sometimes if I feel like snacking in the evening, I will have a glass of that instead. No calories, nice full feeling, and it adds fiber which is good for me,

I am finding I enjoy unsweetened coconut flakes for fiber but I just love coconut.

Psyllium husks are the main component in most fiber supplements. By themselves, they taste like wheat. When mixed into water, the texture gets all Jello-ey. It is kind of sickening to drink, but you can gulp it down real quick or get them in capsule form. Also, look into Fiber syrup, which is not nearly as sweet as sugar, but good for making homemade Quest bars. They sell Fiber syrup on Amazon.

If you can correct your diet by incorporating fiber rich foods such as whole grains, vegetables, avocado, and other fruits then that would be your best bet.

I have IBS-D and talked to my GI doc because it upset my stomach. Stopped taking Metamucil and started back on the recommended prescription meds. Feeling much better and sticking with whatever I get from the yummy fruits and veggies.

I take to fiber gummies. I also eat lots of fruits and some veggies and my cereal is usually high fiber as well.
I also track my fiber here.
My natural state of being is backed up so I faithfully monitor.
