New Bike/Cold Ears

I recently bought a bike and I'm thrilled to be out of the gym for my cardio!
Since I live in the NE, and plan to ride come winter, I need to know what hat that covers my ears will be safe to wear under my helmet?

    I have one similar to this - I'm a big fan of Gore's windstopper fabric. IME, wind is a far bigger problem than is the cold.

    even as a walker, and not a biker-yes, winds can even make not cold temps cold for the ears. when possible I support windbreaker fabric-like the above

    When it's not too cold, I stuff a small amount of cotton in my ears - not enough to keep from hearing cars behind me, but enough to keep wind from blowing in them. When it's really cold, I have a head band that covers the ears. There are a billion out there on any running/biking shopping site. For super cold, you will likely want to find a full face baklava (spelling?) that allows you to breath and keep the cheeks cozy.
