Running Shoes!

I was looking for running shoes and I stumbled across these
http://www.famousfootwear.com/Shopping/ProductDetails.aspx?p=02263&pg=5143338
I can't tell if they're actual running shoes or not? Does anyone have experience with these or can recommend a good shoe around the same price ($60)
I do actually have a budget so please don't recommend shoes over $60 because it's "so worth it". I do not have the funds to make that happen.

hi I wouldnt run in those I gotta admit. I would go to a running shop and have a chat with them get fitted and then wait for the sales and buy the best you can for your budget and in the sales your budget will go further. good luck0

Do you happen to live within driving distance of an outlet mall? I was just at one in New Jersey this weekend and they had Nike and Rebock outlet stores. The Nike store had dozens of awesome running shoes (well made, comfy. etc) that were originally $80-$100, but were marked down to $40-$60. They're just last season's styles, which doesn't really matter if you just want a good shoe. They you can try on the best ones for your feet.0

I understand your budget limitations and desires, but the only way that you are going to get good running shoes that are appropriate for you is to go to a running shoe specialty store and let then fit you. No picture or write up can tell you what you need to know to get good shoes that work for you. A pro fitting will reveal things like pronation (over or under) and such that will determine what you need. Buying the wrong shoes can ruin your running experience before you ever start. I assume that you will get a lot of posts with advice similar to what I am giving. Trust the experienced runners - get a proper fitting at a specialty store, you will be glad that you did.0

I agree with clioandboy and 00trayn. They don't really look like they have the support and durability you would need in a running shoe. In my opinion I don't think they would last very long and then you would end paying more in the end because you would need to buy another pair. Have you tried looking at zappos?0

I don't see anything about those shoes that makes me trust them!
I just bought running shoes for the first time in…well, in this century and I went to Road Runner Sports..
Here's a link to their store locator:

Oh, you're in Vista! I was just in San Marcos on Monday. :-)
I went to the store in Costa Mesa and was hugely impressed.
OK, I spent more than $60 but, if folks at their other stores are as knowledgeable as the folks in the Costa Mesa stores, you're in good hands.
Another source. Check out runnersworld.com
This will help:

It's the link to the shoe finder.
That will give you some ideas and let you do some on line shopping but, really, the folks at Foot Runner impressed the heck out of me.
Another tip (you can tell I'm pretty psyched!) is to go to Road Runner and sign up as a "VIP". The online price is only $1.99 vs $19.99 in the store. As a VIP, you get a 10% discount on all purchases and free shipping. Since we're in the People's Republic of California, we still pay 8.5% tax (or something atrocious) but at least you'll get the discount.
One last thing. I spent about $100 on my shoes (Nike Equalon) and they are worth every penny. Granted, I'm just starting running again but…first time I ran around my block (0.6 miles), everything hurt (my knees hurt from basketball in college and jumping out of planes in the Army). I got my sneaks last weekend and went running on Monday.
Made it round three times and finished with a strong but comfortable kick. The difference is amazing.
Good luck with this. Let us know how it turns out!
(P.S. thanks to the great shoes I got, I'm hoping to run the half marathon in San Diego in August!)0 -
Thank you all for your excellent advice!!
I will check it out! I wish I wasn't so limited by money but I guess that's just the stage of life I'm in so I'll do the best with what I've got
Again THANK YOU! :flowerforyou:0 -
go online to like Zappos or an equivalent store. there are plenty of options for under $50.0

OK, if you seriously can't go over $60 and you plan on running regularly, here's what you can do. It's a bit cheesy, but I can't think of another way.
1. Go to a specialty running store that can give you a gait analysis and properly fit you with appropriate shoes.
2. Leave without buying anything (sorry, I told you this would be cheesy!).
3. Go to the Runner's World web site and look up the general kind you need (neutral, stability, motion control, etc) and find one that is a best buy or editors choice.
4. Go to the Holabirds sports web site.
5. Look at the their clearance shoes that fit the bill. They can be one or two models back. That's fine. They are basically the same.
Holabird is cheap and I think they charge $4 shipping. No tax of course. I did the above except I actually purchased the shoes at the running store. All subsequent pairs have been purchased online. Some amazing deals. Bottom line: get fitted and don't buy crappy shoes. You hopefully can get a pair at your price point.
For example, here's an Asics GEL-Cumulus for $59.95. It retails for $100. Best of luck!
