I am currently trying to get into better shape for a mud run in October. I am currently 221lbs so this is going to be a challenge. Looking for for any advice.

If this is your first time doing this sort of thing, I would recommend finding a good training program online, e.g. muddyrace.co.uk/training-plans/beginners-obstacle-race-8-week-training-plan/. I know when I first took up running and needed guidance, using an online plan really helped me get into it and reach the end. (There are loads of plans if you google it, that's just the one I thought looked most suited to a beginner)

Luckily, mud runs are mostly obstacles and waiting around for the people in front of you to get done...so there won't be a lot of running involved except between obstacles with plenty of time for rest. Get a training plan together and stick to it. Pay for the mud run if you haven't already...any time I sign up and pay it is as if I'm already accomplishing something b/c there is no lookin back. good luck! I love running!

Funny you say that about paying for it. I signed up for it in January with the thought I was going to be prepared for it. Then I switched jobs and I have been having trouble getting motivated for it again. I have been back at fitcamp for 3mths now so I am getting my strength now need to work on my cardio. Now have a little over 8 weeks. Down side is this is up the side of a ski mountain :'(
