Getting serious

I'm 17 and started out at 264ish about a month ago. I've never been skinny and I've been in plus sized clothing since the beginning of middle school. I'm getting married and want to be getting closer to 180 lbs by the end of the year. My mom was never serious about her weight and she is about 320 I believe. I haven't asked her since she believes she is healthy and gets very defensive. She yo-yo diets and believes in crazy things like 'starvation mode' and no carb diets. I don't really take anything she suggests very seriously since she hasn't been below 250 lbs since she gave birth to me.
My biggest issue was portion size and never feeling hungry. I've lost about 20 lbs in the last month because I've been counting calories religiously and have finally gotten to the point where I'm barely hungry ever. I feel great! Food isn't constantly on my mind and I'm not as sleepy or lazy as I used to be. Today I hit 244 and I'm really proud of myself. It's pretty tough being in a house where people will criticize you for being fat but not make an effort to help or be supportive. Thankfully, my fiance is being great and I can't wait to surprise him with my effort when we get married.
I'm just posting to share my story and talk to others! Thanks everybody.

That is an amazing effort. A pity about the lack of support. Keep doing what you have been doing. Who knows? You may inspire your family to get on board. Best of luck.0

I can only hope. What bums me out the most is that she really believes she is healthy just because she eats 'healthy' foods She can't walk very far without complaining about her knees/feet and she can't run. Just drives me crazy when she blames it on genetics.0

Way to go! 20 lbs is an amazing feat. The amount of effort you're putting in is paying off. If you can't find support from your family, the least we could do on MFP is support your goal0
