You create personal recipes using the FOOD > Recipes feature, then your personal Recipes show up in the Recipe list for you to log to your Food Diary.
You create personal Foods using the FOOD > My Foods > Create Food feature when you can not find an item in the Food Database, which should be infrequent. Also, if you edit a food item found in the Food Database, you will become the temporary "owner" of that shared food item and it will temporarily be found in your My Foods list.
