You came to the right place. Step 1 - this is about lifestyle change not a diet. Step 2 - Be honest counting calories because once you count correctly its just simple math. Step 3 - Don't punish your self and starve, its the slight deficit that works.

I never miss a meal and have snacks every day. If you really like to eat, throw some exercise in so you can eat back some of what you burn. Try to eat better quality foods and avoid junk. Go ahead and get started, if you stay with it you will be glad. I have gained a few back but I lost 50 pounds, dropped my cholesterol 50 points, stopped snoring, cured insomnia, eat healthy foods and got in the best shape of my life. Thanks to MFP!

Did you happen to notice that MFP doesn't have a three pound per week option? There is a reason for that. What do you weigh now? How tall are you? What is your goal weight? From there, a realistic goal can be set.

That's about 2 pound per week territory ... not three. Go read the pinned threads in the Getting Started section of the forum, learn how to do this in a healthy manner, set realistic goals, go from there.

If you can do 3lbs a week, thats amazing! Some weeks you might only lose 1 and some 5 so dont get discouraged! If you start to only lose 1 or even .5 a week, thats a win! If you are heading in the right direction any small achievement is something to be proud of yourself for! When you get closer to your end goal, even 5lbs a month is a huge achievement! Keep positive and you can do it!

Three pounds of fat per week requires a 1500 calorie per day deficit. It isn't "amazing" ... it's an unhealthy goal that requires netting far too little to meet basic nutritional needs given the OP's current weight.

Hi Steph! I am also a resident of Virginia. Been on this site regularly for over a year now, have lost 53+ pounds, and still eat a lot of crappy food. Some things I've learned over this period:

This is going to take time. A. LOT. Of. Time. You will get frustrated. You will want to quit. You will feel depressed from time to time. Some of those times will even been on the weeks when you make progress. Here's the thing: DO NOT QUIT!!!! The sweat, the pain, the tears, all of it will be worth it, and sometimes it will be as simple as dropping a single pant size which makes you feel like the king/queen of the world.

Weigh your food. This is far more important than weighing yourself. We often come on here and have the best intentions of logging everything accurately, but often we have no idea how much 2 oz. of pasta really is (it's depressingly little), so we put 2 oz when we just ate 7. I am proud of the weight I've lost, but if I want to continue losing I have to be certain the food I'm taking in is really the correct amount or I am sabotaging myself.

Be honest. Log everything, even the stuff you are embarrassed about. The only one you'd be lying to is yourself if you conveniently "forget" to log the half-bag of potato chips. You will look back and wonder why you aren't losing as you should. It's okay to have bad days, and okay to have good days. Sometimes your victories will be on the scale, other days they'll be non-scale victories. Just be honest with yourself.

This journey is about making progress, not being perfect. DO NOT QUIT and you will see rewards.

Shes asking for encouragements not negativity and nay sayers. I wasn't necessarily using amazing as a synonym for "good", amazing has more meaning than how the average joe uses the word. At the beginning days and weeks of starting a new diet can result in loss of water weight.. an average 3lbs in a week for a few weeks could be mainly water weight and shouldn't be shamed or called unhealthy. Think before you post.

Endorsing a foolish and unhealthy course of action is not encouragement. Your attempt to defend your indefensible position isn't providing help. Telling a person to chase an unheated goal is irresponsible. Then again, I did think before I posted and applied logic ... not blind rah-rah bovine excrement.

Two pounds a week is plenty rapid weight loss, and will be pretty simple for you to accomplish.

Basic reason for not doing more than two per week at most is you don't want to burn through a lot of lean muscle (you want to keep that stuff) and you don't want to make yourself sick.

If you didn't know, women have a monthly cycle. Accounting for extra water weight, as I had pointed out, is logical. Some weeks women might lose .5lb on a diet and on the same diet might lose 5lbs.. depending on the time of month. Yes an average of 3lbs a week isn't considered healthy. No one is disagree with that. I was simply giving some encouragements. No one is BSing anyone, there were many posts about 3lbs a week isn't the best choice. I was adding in some "don't get discouraged!" and some "you can do its" as she asked for. Don't pick posts where people are asking for motivation and encouragements if you are going to be negative and call other's motivational posts "rah-rah bovine excrement".

Supporting a plan that requires netting between 450 and 850 net calories is not supporting healthy weight loss. That is what a planned loss of 3 lbs per week, 15 per month is for the OP.

No matter how unhealthy a plan is, somebody on MFP will say "you can do it" and that embarking on that dangerous path is "amazing".

Good luck sweet. I will send a friend request and we can motivate each other. I have been doing this for about six to seven weeks and I have lost 6 kg. I use to have a figure that I wanted to lose but after a while my focus shifted to making this a fun experience with food and retraining my thoughts on food.... Because I'm simply a food addict. I have cut out sugar and fast food, and I feel amazing I have already dropped a dress size. I don't work out much but I am working towards it! You can do this it's your turn to be happy and look after you.

That is what you told the OP she could do. That is what you supported.

I want to print this out and read it every morning!

Adding you as a friend, @stephmar05 , I'm a newbie to MFP and it's working for me, sloowly, but it's working and I feel in control for the first time in a long time. We can do it!

This. Is just wonderful advice. Best not to focus on x pounds per week. If you shoot for 3, it won't make you happy or healthy, anyway. Try a little less aggressive approach, and, just for now, focus on the present.
