It is very hard. I love love love food. I can't help it. But when I was pregnant with #2 I was diagnosed with the gestational diabetes. I was put on a strict diet, which was so hard at first, then I got used to it. After having my daughter I dropped 40 pounds from my pre pregnancy weight. Right then and there I vowed I would not gain any weight back. I would just keep on losing. And Since finding this site, and working out at the gym 5 days a week, I feel more motivated to keep losing the weight. It is still a struggle, and I tend to fall off the wagon a day here and there, but for the most part, I have been on track.

Good Luck to you, I am sure with the help of this site, you can do it!!!!!

    Hello,
1st of all, congrats on ur recent engagement!! :)
    I am also a newbie-started on Tuesday. :)

So far what has kept me motivated with food logging & excersing is KNOWING i have to write it al down. Makes me actually watch what I eat-n force myself to workout-so i dont kick myself in the butt @ the end of the day. :) I LOVE FOOD. So it is hard. Im not depriving myself-but am more cautious of what Im actually putting in my mouth. :)

I agree with Sprinkle09. having to write everything down ha been helpful so far. i've only been consistent with this for 3 days now (so i'm kinda new too, although i joined a while back...). other things that keep me motivated:

1- setting goals and restrictions and making them public. on my blog i set three goals for the week (e.g., walk to campus; not allowed to drive). each week i plan to add a new goal and continue with the previous week's habits. if i don't do as well as intended on each goal, i won't add a new one until i've satisfied the others.

2-looking in the mirror naked for a while; all angles- some people say it's bad to self-critique so often but if you have excess fat (as i do) it can be motivating. do it every morning and night (unless it depresses you; not a good way to start/end your day).

3-heart rate monitor- instant feedback is amazing. sometimes the scale takes a while to go down, and fitting into clothes and looking or feeling a certain way can take time too. but on thing for sure is that your endurance improves with consistent (and sufficiently challenging) exercise. sometimes i'll notice that my cardiovascular efficiency has improved (i.e., my max. HR is lower at high levels of intensity, and the time it takes for my HR to go back to "resting" state is shorter) before i notice any external changes with my body.

long response, sorry. i hope something in this helps!
  • thank you all for your suggestions. I too notice that writing it all down and logging it makes me feel more concious of my food habits. Almost like I start feeling guilty if I want to eat that candy bar! ha ha ha. BTW my profile pic is nothing what i look like now...add 30-35 lbs to that! yikes! I also like the setting goals. I too have looked in the mirror and hated what i see, and where i see it for that matter! haha! Kinda brings me down, but also that visual helps me to want to do more.
