Hello
Since 1st of June 2015 I have been exercising more and eating smaller portion sizes. I have been doing a mixture of running, swimming, and more recently started weight training. I have lost 24lb which im really happy with (I only have another 15 to lose for my BMI to be back in green) my trousers/ jeans no longer fit me they fall down, BUT... I have measured my waist this morning and it is still the same as it was before I started! What is that all about!?

Maybe you're just losing from places other than your waist. Also, I find waist measurement to be the hardest to get an accurate reading for (compared to, say, thighs or hips). It varies so drastically depending on how you're standing, how you're breathing and how bloated you happen to be that day. Also when in the day matters - by the end of the day, even if I haven't eaten anything all day, my waist is 2 inches larger (and the measurement round my belly button about 3 or 4 inches larger). So all of those things could be playing a part.0

If your pants are falling down your waist is getting smaller. You're just not being consistent in how you measure.0

I did it first thing this morning after going to the toilet, I do the same when weighing myself too? I was lead to believe when losing weight it comes off your core first, my waist measurement is 33inch so if thats anything to go by im classed as obese still! Although my dress size is now a UK 12-14 down from 16-180

Not sure where you got that from! Most people find it's the opposite, and it's a really common thing to complain about - people ending up with skinny everything else but still have a big tummy.
Weight will come off where it comes off, it's different for everyone. You just have to keep at it.0 -

My pants dont touch my waist lol thats my hips! I dont wear Simon Cowels0 -
Ut comes off wherever it comes off. You sat your pants fall down and you take a smaller dress size so you are obviously getting smaller. Why not just be happy with that?0

Tummy fat is normally the last too loose as it is a natural fat storage/ emergency fuel. Do excises that engage your core this will help to increase fat loss in that area.0

I am happy but it still worries me that my waist size is still in the unhealthy range according to the NHS website? Hopefully it will start decreasing after iv lost abit more0 -

That's not true, you can't spot reduce. Exercising a specific area of your body doesn't reduce fat in that area. Exercising your core is a good idea for a flat stomach, but it's not because it burns fat in that area.0 -
Worry less and go with whhat everuone else and your logic says. You are getting smaller, its coming off soemwhere carry on, unless you think you are so unique it works different fro you than everyone else. You have little to worry about, there are people on this site with 150+ lbs to lose. See what happens when you get to target. If you are exercising then do some weights as well to preserve what muscle you have.0

I am classed as obese still too. Yeah the general public must have said the bold. (outside of MFP world, public)

We all come in different shapes, some of us hold onto more weight around our middles, others on their legs etc...with each pound you lose your waist will reduce, ok its not ideal that you haven't seen a reduction yet, but you will. Keep up your strength training/workouts etc and the inches will soon start to melt from everywhere
You are definately measuring in the exact same spot on your waist right? It can be hard to determine that exactly.
Keep up the great work0 -

Yes, exactly that.
For the first two months I'd lost 10 kilos but I'm sure I kept breathing out more and more each time I measured my waist because one day I found I'd suddenly "lost" about 15 cm!!!0 -

Were trying to point out to you that you are worrying needlessly and that it comes off differently for different people, but eventually it does come off. You are making great progress, so why worry about it not coming off vecayse sooner rather than later it will have no hoice where it has to come from. Take selfies and you can chart your progress. Wear your old clothes and you can see they are too big.
If you wnat help with appearing smaller then do some weight training as well.0 -

Maybe it will! When you measure, try standing how you stand when you're feeling good about yourself. I think my problem was I kept breathing out / relaxing too much and thinking I wasn't ever losing any inches.
@DemoraFairy got it spot on. Even now, I still don't bother with waist measurements too much. Maybe once a month or so, if that. I let the scale, the mirror, my clothes, photos and my friends gauge my loss. Waist centimetres are only a minor part of the big picture.
Good luck!0 -
No one has mentioned alcohol. I agree with such a lot of other points but I know for me, without alcohol my waist changes a lot regardless of weight change.0

Ill try that then lol thank you this is the first time iv measured since I started so I think I was just expecting a change of some kind x0
