Swimming??

Thinking of starting swimming, is it as good as people say?? Does it target more than going to the gym etc..
I was thinking of the gym but I think I would enjoy swimming more
I want to lose 28lbs by Christmas

Swimming is great, but doing a variety of exercises (weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing) is better. I like to swim between weight workouts or other high-impact exercise days.

The biggest challenge with swimming is getting enough intensity--many people just futz around in the water and don't accomplish much. It's also pretty hard to track accurately.

Do the type of exercise you enjoy most. I never go to the gym. I would hate it. Boring!!! I love swimming but don't do it either these days. I used to.

To lose weight, fix your diet - eat healthy whole foods - and eat a little less than you burn in the course of your day.

28 pounds is pretty easy to lose even without exercise.

I've swam 120 lengths a week for the last 4 years- I don't think it's contributed much to my weight loss per second but it's great for my mental health and keeping me on track with healthy eating.

Swimming is my cardio of choice. I swim between 2000-2500 yds twice I week. I do weight bearing exercise the other days. I love it.

You lose weight by being in a caloric deficit. Exercise is for health and helps the deficit.

I love swimming! When I wasn't tracking calories (and probably overeating) i used to swim 2x week and I actually built some muscle on my legs and arms, but I didn't lose any weight, of course. I plan on starting back this week and alternating with lifting and light cardio on other days of the week.

I swim between 8-10 miles a week, I love it. It has given me great cardiovascular health, flexibility and made me stronger. I burn between 500-1000 calories when I swim which allows me to enjoy more food, but I get in the pool and really work it. I'm 57 years old and started 2.5 years ago at 248 lbs. Now I'm down to 174 and while i still have some to lose, I've never felt better.
