Most important thing? Start accurately logging your food so you know how many calories you're consuming. For exercise, don't do something that is going to cause harm. Its ok to challenge yourself, but make sure you're medically cleared. Walking is great, and you control the pace. :)

    1. Diet is more important than exercise for weight loss; 2. if you are not already doing so, you should consult with your doctor for any special needs related to your kidney transplant; 3. The standard response to your exercise question is that you should do both progressive resistance and aerobic exercises, but within those two buckets, the only thing that matters is to find activities that you like and will stick with. The difference in the aerobic benefits between running, cycling, treadmill, elliptical, etc. is insignificant, so do what you like. As far as resistance training, there are passionate advocates of "lifting heavy" on these boards, but there is no one true way. I much prefer TRX training and, because I like it, I am seeing much greater improvements in my strength that other resistance activities.
