Hey,

Just wondering if anyone has had this happen. I have been working out pretty intensly for the last 4.5 months. Usually 2 times a day 6-7 days a week. Well I am trying my hardest to be hot for a trip i take in 8 days and so for 16 days straight i worked out 2 times a day running 3 miles each day, 40 mins on the stairmaster, 40 min uphill vigorous walking and other stuff including weight training. (I know you can over do it but it did provide good results.. lol) anyway over the holiday i just lazy'd it up and took 3 days off. Tuesday I went back to the gym and only did one workout.. Wednesday i couldnt get outta bed and today i am struggling. I am sore everywhere, achy, tired and just drained :(

I am not sure if i am getting a cold, or sick in some way or if my body just decided to fight back.. haha has anyone had this happen or have advice for VERY sore muscles that feel completely empty of energy? :( i hate to spoil my hard work by not quite making my goal (need 4 more pounds)

Thanks for any help or advice!

Our bodies need a break in order to repair/heal themselves. You've been working it VERY hard - I would give it at least one week off. Don't do ANYTHING strenuous. Just take it easy. I try and give myself 1 week completely off from working out every 4-6 weeks. My body always feels so much better afterward.

Chevy88grl is right, you need a break. I'd take 2 days off if you can't do a week, but at least take the 2 days. Plus it may be a shock to the body and jump start another round of weight loss.

From what you've described, you're totally Over-training. For the most part, when it comes to exercise, Less is More!

Anytime you do a strenuous workout, you need time to allow your body to recover from that workout. As such, you get stronger when you're RESTING...Not, when you're going hardcore.

Think of your body like a highly adaptable machine....you work it hard....and during the rest time, it will adapt to the stress so that it can handle more loads.

However, if it never gets the chance to rest and repair...it'll just burn out and stop working al together.

Honestly, I've had clents get twice the results by actually working out Less frequently...and giving themselves more recovery time between sessions. They come back stronger each time and are able to do more and more.
  • I kinda figured that was it. I just have never felt so sore.. lol Thank you all for the advice and help! :D Very much appriciated! Maybe i will take the next couple days to get all my shopping for my trip and such down and hopefully get back in the gym after that :)

    Thank you :)

for the soreness try a warm epsom salt bath. i LOVE them after a hard workout. makes my muscles relax and not so sore the next morning.

I hardly do much cardio but I lift weights 4x a week and I am always sore after a workout...I am pretty much always sore and have been for let's say, 8 months now? I think it has to do with the intensity of the workouts.
